2003 4runner Tire Recommendations

What is the largest tire that can be used on a 2003 4runner with a stock suspension?

What tire size / type does everyone think is the best?

Thanks.

Eric

Largely depends on what you're going to do. Is this just a daily driver? Weekend wheeler?

Do you have 17" wheels? If so, 265/70/17 is generally recommended. I actually had Bridgestone REVO's in that tire size and they were great. I mostly do on-road driving, going up the mountain to a ski resort, and a little bit of off-roading. They held up really well. Very quiet on the highway, too.

It is the wife's dd and I was trying to find the best setup.
The 4runner does have the stock 17inch wheels.

Did you have any issues with rubbing on the 265/70s? What is the benefit of the 265/70s over the 265/65s?

Still learning

The 70 is just a little taller. Probably 3/4 of an inch.

I didn't have any issues with rubbing except at full lock and full compression (going over some hard bumps off-roading). The 265/70 tires "lifted" my rig up about 1/2 inch. But if this will be your wife's daily driver, I would just stick to the 265/65's, since she will have an easier time getting in and out (esp. with the young one). Plus, the bigger tires drop your MPG (mine dropped by 2MPG).

If you're not going off-road in this, an all-season tire would suit you the best. Something like Michelin A/S or Bridgestone's would be good. They offer a better ride than the All-Terrains. IF you are going to go off the beaten path, I'd recommend Bridgestone REVO's myself. Very good on-road manners and does well in snow, rain and light mud.
