^yea, both All Pro and Bud Built have announced skid plate production for 05+ tacomas in the last month. I have yet to see any detailed pics of the Budbuilt yet.

This guy had some made from 1/4" aluminum. Probably not as burly as steel, but definitely saved some LBS.

I would stay away from any aluminum made skid plates.
My buddy put the full set of Bud built skids under his f.j. and they didn't do to well.
I need to get some for my Taco too.

Jacket, that AL one looks good, for protection on "normal expeditions" I think it might do just fine. For rock crawling it may be too soft.

Yea - I'm not endorsing it by any means, but it's custom made so the design is what's interesting. You can use any material you prefer.

Downey also has a belly plate that I've seen a few folks install. It's beefy enough to support the full weight of the truck on it.

Everyone, has come up with some quality suggestions, so I thought I would throw mine in the hat. Chech out Demello. They build some nice stuff; strong stuff. We have beat up a few sliders on our Tundras and they held up.

Yeah, I'm one of those folks. It's a great skid, but, it doesn't exactly lend itself very well for use with other skids (tranny/x-fer case) by other manufacturers. Until Downey comes out with a tranny and x-fer case skid to match, you have fab your own additional skids and figure a way to tie them all in together.

I'd like to sell the Downey and get a full set from AP as opposed to trying to come up wit something myself. Yes, I'm just that lazy, and no, I don't have any fab skills.

Was it the lazy part that gave me away?

IMO, the Budbuilt skids sound like the better deal (for just a smidge more money you can get almost a full set of belly skids) over the AP, but like you, I need to see some pics. It's gonna come down to availability for me. This waiting 4 months for a bumper crap wore me out on waiting for custom fab parts. When I get ready to buy, whomever has a full set in stock will get my money.

Ok I think I am building some out of steel, 3 pieces; one to replace the front stock pan, 1 under the front diff and engine, and the last to cover the trany to the cross over and t-case. NOw for the attachment? SHould I counter sink bolts, use grade 8 and leave them exposed, or try to mount the bolts to the sides off of the belly?
