I have a 99 Tacoma as my DD. Looking to fab a flatbed to carry my Kart or XR. Any ideas?

I don't have a pic, but there is a 90 something Taco around my town with a regular flatbed on it. Looks pretty good. I'm sure it was a standard flatbed purchased at the local trailer and flatbed dealership place. It has the headache rack on it and is just flat, no fenders.

Not bad looking, would give you more room to carry an ATV for sure. Only gripe is the area below the flatbed. Seems to leave a big hole between the bed and frame rails on most trucks, I personally don't like that look much.

Making one would be pretty easy. The stor bought ones, so to speak are just heavy channel going across the bed, with a channel edge to it all. Wood floor is bolted to the cross peices, extra bolting crossmembers can be angle iron. Then add in spacers where needed to hit the frame.

I'm a little partial to this one... probably because it used to be mine. I like the look of flatbeds with skirts. I think they just look more like they were intended to be used on that truck. I'm sure they are heavier. I'll look for some better pics later, but this is the best I have on my computer.

I'll have to look for more close ups. I sold the truck in about 2002, and most of the pics I have are on film, so I'd have to scan em in. The bed was built by donaldson sheet metal in Bozeman Montana. It was a pretty trick little bed. had drop in racks and tool boxes under both sides. I don't think you can see em in the pic. I also had a 12gal air taink mounted underneath and when you opened one of the tool boxes the regulator and air tools were in there. It's almost all broken sheet metal rather than tubing. It really wasn't all that heavy and was super strong. It was actually on the owner of the sheet metal shop's truck and he sold the truck, but the kept the bed. My dad owns a metal fab shop and knows him well. So I saw it behind the shop getting rusty and bought it for $500. I blasted and painted it and put it on. If it were me I would have built it about a foot shorter, but other than that I really liked it. It was nice having that long to sleep on though. With the ladder rack on I could put a tarp over the top and make a quick tent to sleep in. Also the side rails you see are removeable for a complete flat surface. I'll look for some pics this weekend. IT was also kind of a utility truck and I used it as a DD, so offroad performance wasn't as good as it could have been. On 35's with lockers it was pretty capable offroad anyway.

As an additional note, the guy who bought it from me rolled it. It now has a new cab, but it didn't appear to damage the bed. I'm guessing by the wreackage I saw it saved his life. It must have been a roll at high speed. The body was pretty mangled. Even thin wall 4x4 steel tubing is pretty strong.
