Need a new Battery

Well I would like suggestions on a good battery for an 02 4Runner. I was going to go with an Optima but it does not fit unless I want to extend the battery cables. Any suggestions on something comparable to an Optima yellow or maybe red?

You can get Optimas w/ reversed terminals("R" series)...re-check the available products and you'll find them.

Keep in mind with the optimas- they don't handle rapid charging. trickle only.

I've got an optima red top in my 40, and a small current leak somewhere in my headlight relay circuit. I went too long without starting it and it drained. I didn't want to wait a day to trickle charge it, so I set the charger to 75 amp for about a minute and fired it up. It started, but hasn't held a full charge since.

Since then I've read posts from others on this board describing similar issues. Not necessarily a problem, just something to be aware of.

I just changed out my battery on my 02 4Runner with a Costco unit. It's got a 3 year warranty (if you know Costco, warranty issues are resolved with ease), and 100 month pro-rated warranty. Works fine for me. Cost was $60, IIRC. Starts up great, but I think I have to change out the starter contacts.

Draining any battery down competely will kill it - whether its a AGM or regular flooded battery. A deep cycle battery works better in this application.

Optima can be fast charged (75 Amp+) just as well as any flooded battery, as long as you keep the battery temperature under control and not burn it up.

I assume from the initial post that you require the higher quality yellow top, right? If so, get the R version as Pluton suggested. If not, my suggestion is to find a comparable-to-stock battery that has a reasonable amount of warranty such as the Costco version.
