V6 tacoma 4x4
Hey everyone
![]() I have a beat 83 4x4 toyota that I have spent too much on and it wants to die no matter what so I have finally decided on an upgrade. I usually hang out in the other toy room, now I'm here. I want a V6 taco 4x4, 99-04? but don't know much about them. Do all have the optional e-locker? Are 01-04 better than 99-00? Does axle gear ratio change between these years? Anything else would be totally appreciated and sorry if this is the #1 question asked in this room. Oh and is it true the V6's get nearly the same gas mileage as the 4bangers?![]() Thanks!

Not all came with the optional e-locker. Mine is a 2000 V6 4x4 5sp TRD. This model has the e-locker.
My friend has an almost identical 99 Taco 4x4 but minus the TRD package= no rear locker. Try to find a 5sp TRD 4x4. The locker is fantastic and my secret weapon on the trails. Can't go wrong with that V6! __________________ 1987 FJ-60. Iron lift, 33x9.5 BFG AT's. 195,000 mi strong. 2000 Tacoma TRD locked/lifted & ARB'd for the High Sierras. 2001 4runner bone stock DD |

Hey dizzi, here's a link to some tacoma history..
http://forum.ih8mud.com/95-gen-toyot...rket-taco.html There were a few without the trd package that had an e-locker, but few and far between as they were special order by those who knew they didn't want the other stuff. As far as gear ratios for V6s, autos & trds were 4.10, 5spds were 3.91, but here's the link to the axle code gear chart.. http://forum.ih8mud.com/95-gen-toyot...r-changes.html As for gas mileage, a properly geared v6 tacoma can get 21+mpg. I'm sure you know, it all depends on driver, and how well maintained it is. But either way, it will still be the best choice in its class. I'll just add that if you were considering a Dbl Cab, they were not available with a 5spd in the 01-04 vintage (only Auto).
So for you, I'd say an access cab 3.4V6 5spd with the TRD package (e-locker) would be a good fit. |

Thanks guys. Thats exactly what I was looking for. It's access cab 3.4V6 5spd with the TRD package for sure. Now all I need is somebody crazy enough to sell one of these gems.

It shouldn't be too difficult to find. I see 5sp TRD's all the time on autotrader and craigslist. The TRD package w/ the e-locker was available from 95.5, I believe.

Did any of the double cabs have manuals at all. That is what I really want. The TRD would be cool, but If I were to get a Taco, it would need to be the double cab with a manual tranny. But it seems they don't exist at all????? Did they come with the TRD package on them at all????
I'm learning too. Do new double cabs come with manuals at all??? Seems price wise they are pretty similar. And when did the bad V-6 go away, before 95? __________________ 1996 T100, Stock, new to me, cool truck 1973 FJ-40, Stock, Restored, Ehsan top coming soon ![]() 1984 FJ-60, Stock, 221,000+miles ![]() 2002 Subaru Forester L, for the wifey

You can get an 05+ Tacoma Dbl Cab TRD 4x4 with a 6 spd manual. For the 01-04, only Auto's came with the Dbl Cab 4x4.
