Was considering a Tacoma or Tundra

Hey guys I am usually hanging around the 80 serise section ... I was out looking at new Toyota's the other day .
I was looking at the new crew cab Tacoma's or a tundra , If I was going to spend the money on tundra I would proibly just go buy another Dodge with the cummins .
The LX450 I have is great but I don't wheel the SUV and need more rear space and having a small bed would be a benifit to me .
I was leaning toward the Tacoma , any bad things to know about these newer trucks .
I still have another full size dodge diesel , thats a keeper ...27MPG

Since you've already got your tow rig, I'd go for the Tacoma. It's smaller (but only a tiny bit from the Tundra) and gets better mileage. Pretty good power from the 4.0L V6, too. Not sure if you're going to get a used one, but some 05's had problems with the rear diff's going out. 06-07 should be fine, though. If you get one, try to get the rear locker AND ATRAC.

I did hear that the Tacoma's may have had some trany problems any one have any trany problems .
I am kind-a gun shy about buying anything new these days , I had a brand new F-350 diesel 3 years ago and that truck was back to the dealer over 30 times for big stuff .
I'm a retired wrench and don't want to be back to the deal every couple weeks .
Knock on wood I did alot of replacement parts on my LX and it 's still a great little buggie but I need more rear people space and the LX is a little tight in the rear seating area ... but want to stay with the toyota Family

The rear seats on a Tacoma isn't really all that much bigger, IIRC. Maybe a Sequoia would be a better fit for you? Also, check over at TTORA.com for more Tacoma info. Here is the link:

Look at the top two stickies. Some 2007's seem to have an issue with the driveline.

But I think the best thing about the 05+ Tacoma's are the simple oil changes.

Look at the location of the oil filter (left of the battery, kind of underneath the engine cover).

It depends quite a bit on geography, but in my area, the used 05+ Tacomas are really holding their value. There seems to be more bargaining power with the new ones, especially if you can work through fleet/internet sales.

Other than the early production 05 rear diff issues, there really hasn't been anything worth mentioning in terms of issues. Mine's been solid and problem free. I haven't seen any noteworthy transmission issues; the only consideration is an auxillary AT transmission cooler if you pull heavy loads or wheel a lot to keep the temps down. If a Toyota with a bed is what you are after, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a new Tacoma.

As p nut said, the rear seating isn't what I'd call spacious, but it's comfortable for most. Rear seat space is better than the previous gen Tacoma, and pretty compatible with the 3rd gen 4Runners. Go down to the dealer and take one for a spin - you'll end up bringing it home

I love my TRD Taco, no problems yet and I've almost got 8000 miles on it. The Tundra is f-ing huge.
I have the access cab and theres noy alot of room back there but I have had 3 dirtbikes and 3 full grown men it in and had no problems.
I've done some decent wheeling and plan on doing alot more.

What kind-a fuel milage are the Tacos getting , I would assume the double cab would get a little less .

I don't think there's much difference between the Dbl cab and Access cab. V6 4x4 (or pre-runner), you can expect 18-19 mixed use, average driving. I did as good as 22 highway, and as bad as 16. This was all while I was mostly stock. With my modifications, I've lost 1-2 mpg.

Like Jacket said, no difference between DC and AC. There is a difference between 4x4 and 4x2, but hope you're not considering a 2WD.

I'd buy a 1st gen real 4 door Tundra. I have the access cab 1st gen Tundra and love it except I'd rather have 4 real doors. I average around 18 mpg with the 4.7 V8 and can tow if I need to.
