Any suggestions or requests for this sub-forum?

Hey everyone- It occurred to me that I've kind of quietly been going about the moderator duties here in the 95+ sub-forum for the past 2 months. If anyone has any suggestions for a thread to be made sticky, or threads to be moved, edited, etc. Please feel free to contact me.

Great idea. I was hoping to find an extensive FAQ here like in the 80' section...but not much around yet. I think if we had an established FAQ up top it might inspire others to do some good writeups of projects to 'make the list'.

Here's a couple that I found helpful that would be nice to have in a FAQ, the links might need some cleaning up:

FSM downloads:
http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.p...&highlight=fsm

Lifting with Tundra Coils:
http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.p...ghlight=tundra
http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.p...ghlight=tundra

Gearing/Larger tire discussions like:
http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.p...94#post2496394

Checking axle code via door sticker:
http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.p...t=door+sticker

4Runner Antenna Replacement:
http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=188950

Tundra Caliper/Rotor mod for Early Tacomas:
(Is there a write-up here?)

Grey Wire Mod - Rear Locker usage in all gears and speeds:
Tacomas:
http://customtacos.com/tech/index.php?article=10
http://www.mor4wd.com/mods.asp?ID=4
Runners:
http://www.hboss.net/4runner/locker_safety.htm

Other common lift options?

Tire size vs Gearing?

What size tire rubs with what lift?

Just 'thinking' out loud here. These were some of the first things that I looked up when I bought, so others might do the same. Hopefully someone else can chime in with other Taco and Tundra FAQ items.

Good stuff- keep it coming.

Once we have this FAQ section fleshed out really well- I'll compile it and make it Sticky.

This would be great! Just wondering out loud, but would it be okay to have links to other forums that already have detailed write-ups? Because some have great info in faq format without all the chatter. That way you don't have to completely reinvent the wheel, but we'd have it all right here! (or I guess we could just cut and paste )

If that works out, maybe we could get a members' rigs sticky.

Thanks, look forward to it.

you guys wanna' do a rig of the month? Have a rotating Sticky where the builder can post up as much or as little information about their buildup? I'm game. PM me if you want in.

Maybe a list of which Land cruiser springs will give what lift to which 4runner.

i.e. rear springs from an 80 lift a 90-95 a bit but I have no clue how much

front springs from an 80 lift the 96-02 four inches or so (IIRC)

There seems to be a bit of confusion about this among the 4runner crowd.

I like Mars's suggestions. What about the larger oil filters available? I have done some research and found some good info out there on the subject and have installed the larger one on my 3.4. Also steering rack bushings? Start with what Mars said though, thats a good start. Somebody has to do the Tundra brake writeup, I was going to do it but am going to do high end rotors instead based on price. I might do the Tundra another time if I can scrounge some parts in the next year or 2, but not right now.

Once again, and let me know what you guys think, but there's a lot of great write-ups out there already. I did the steering rack bushings for example, but I didn't do any write up because I followed another.. http://www.parksoffroad.com/tacomamo...ckbushings.htm

Yotatech has some great info on the larger oil filters http://www.yotatech.com/f2/larger-oi...-media-102066/, and tundra brake upgrade (although I've read some very mixed reviews). I started with ss braided brake lines and noticed a nice improvement. But if you have the time to create such a write-up, that's awesome!

No need to reinvent the wheel. Plus, if we have a sticky with some reader's rides, I think that will be a source of great info also because everyone has done something a little different. I really like the ROTW (& maybe in or case ROTM) in the 80 section, lot of info.

I agree that all that info is available elsewhere, so should we just post links to other forums or should we be writing up our own threads? This forum is the place to be for Landcruiser info but not so much for 4 Runner, Taco, Tundra info. Do we want to build it to be the ultimate Toyota forum or leave the newer truck info to the other forums? I just think it would be nice to have some of these threads writen on this forum.

You guys are absolutely right that there is a lot of information elsewhere. I had other links from other sites that I contemplated posting up as well, and didn't know if it would be frowned upon or not.

I for one, can't stand the attitudes of the people and piles of worthless posts that are on most of the Toyota 4x4 sites and Pirate, and would love to see that same kind of detail that's in the 40/80 sections here with Tacomas/Tundras/Runners. I don't know what its going to take, and I don't know how much action this section of the forum gets.

I would love a big FAQ to build up for these trucks right here on the site. Keep it all in one place. Hopefully with the same quality tech and helpful attention to detail that has made this site what it is.

I plan on doing as many detailed writeups as I can, and will post them up here until the FAQ gets going. Hopefully others will do the same. Reinventing the wheel isn't always necessary, but I sure don't mind paying back others on this site for information I've used over and over again. If it gets the Wood'ster a few more clicks a month even better.

I think the majority of activity in this forum comes from Cruiser owners that also own a Tacoma or 4Runner and are looking for some quick advice/recommendations. As others have stated, trying to build up this section to match the content available at a place like TTORA, Yotatech or wherever is probably not a reasonable expectation.
At minimum, you'd need to sub-divide some content based on the generations:

Tacoma 1995-2004
Tacoma 2005+
4Runner 1996-2002
4Runner 2003+
Tundra 2000+
etc.
I come from the opposite direction, having been a 4Runner and currently a Tacoma owner looking for a Cruiser. I could probably bring quite a bit of new Tacoma knowledge together here in the form of links to other forums. I like the idea of a sticky at the top of the page that is free and clear of banter (like this ), but just contains useful links. In order to keep it clear, the thread would have to locked, and members would have to send links to the moderator? Is that about right?

Luke, go check out the 79-95 section, and see what I've done with the faq/rig of the "bi-week" stickies there.

The short-long is like this:

FAQ thread: locked, and organized by you
FAQ submission thread: open to post links in.

Rig of the month thread: started by the rig of the month owner, and open for comments
Rig of the month sign up thread: Open

Here's a locking hub rebuild I did, that could be useful here. The Taco hubs are probably similar.

http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=149776

I don't have a problem with links to good info on other forums, I've done a few writeups here because I think the way I do them is very user friendly, and couldn't find a clear one anywhere else...

Also, here's the 4Runner antenna fix I just did.

4th gen 4runner..

The tacoma's is pretty similar and I've posted it here before, I'm just too lazy to do it again.

Wheel fitment for tacomas and similar 4runners (luckily in wiki format so not all the angry banter)..
