98 Runner 2.7L 4 banger is toast, easy rebuild? Parts kit?
Hi,
I just got a 98 2WD Runner with a blown 2.7 L motor. Engine runs, but is louder than hell. No external leaks. Are these a pretty straightforward rebuild? Are there any kits available like at engnbldr.com (for 22Rs and 3.slows)? What do you guys who've owned them think about the motor? It's a slushbox now, but is changing to manny feasible, or too big a PITA? It's funny, the guy was warped or something, telling me on the phone and in the ad that it was a 3.4. Big disappointment. But then I noticed the '97 he'd advertised was in actuality a '98, so I figured he must be kinda dingy, and really thought he'd had the 6 cylinder rather than baiting/switching my butt. Anyway, the freaking truck was neat as a pin, both inside/out, without a flake of rust even on the unused Reece hitch. $1900 later, I was an owner. |

I'm not aware of a rebuild kit, but the wrecking yards are sure to have a take- out engine available. You bought it so cheaply, you might afford to spend a little on an engine.

Check ebay, I've seen complete long bocks on there for a reasonable price.
