In response to the recent questions regarding lifts for Tacomas and 3rd Generation 4Runners, I’ve included a link covering the option of using Tundra TRD coils. The idea is to use Toyota (OEM) parts where possible.

Just to summarize some of the 32 page thread;

-Tacoma coils have a spring rate ranging from 420-480 lbs depending on model. 4Runners are about the same.

-Old Man Emu coils (model #s 850-852) are all 500 lbs, just different lengths (information provided straight from manufacturer—who also indicated that they are only for differences in weight so that they net 1.25-1.5” of lift)

-Sway-a-ways (SAWs), Donahoes, Camburgs, Kings, Downeys, or other adjustable coil-over assemblies are mostly rated at around 650 lbs. These are nice if you have the money.

-Tundra TRD coils are rated around 600 lbs and are progressive rate.

Due to the shear mass of posts on forums, it’s become harder and harder to find helpful info when searching. This was created on yotatech by the hard work and dedication of Bamachem (with a few others from yotatech, ttora, etc.). So thanks to them, we can review their trials and tribulations prior to making the decision.

And remember, this is only one option in a sea of choices. Hopefully this offers a quicker result to those searching here. Happy reading and modding!
