cover in the center console - what for ?

Hi all,

I´m new to this board, and this is my first post.
My name is Eric and I´m from Germany.
My Cruiser is a 5-door Prado MJ 05/1998

I have a question regarding the interior.
Maybe you could help me, because the guys in the buschtaxi.de board could´t find a conclusion.

What is this cover for ??
Are there any versions of 90-Series that have something installed instead of this cover ?
I could´t find anything interesting behind this thing so I wonder what it is for.
The picture shows the center console from the backseats.

IN my owners manual (australian version) on page 162 it shows that the rear cooler controls are fitted there - if the rear cooler is fitted to the car of course.

Dhula, this question may sound dumb, but is the cooler you refer to an air conditioning system or a refrigerator-type cooler?

TEPUI,

It is a air con type cooler which can cool the rear section (back seat passenger) of a 5 door Prado (95 series)
