Exhaust options?

Sounds like the jury is split on the advantages of Borla. I'm thinking of replacing the exhaust on my 1996 FZJ80.

What other options are out there?

Thanks!

I have a Hanna bumper on the way and may take the opportunity (while I have to hack the resonator anyway) to replace the huge factory muffler with something a little less bulbous and maybe route the pipe a little better to avoid the current placement of the pipe under the frame.

I don't think I have read here on Mud of a single muffler/cat-back system that has been given universal approval. Ideally we'd be able to listen/look at rigs with several different set-ups and then choose.

Best bet is to use whatever the local reputable exhaust shop uses, and go full custom. Magnaflow muffler is always a good choice IMO.

Has anyone tried a Bosal muffler? Supposed to be a direct bolt in.

Price is good.

I had Bud's on 10th and Santa Fe do a 2 1/2" cat back system using a Magnaflow. I wanted quiet so I went with a 24" muffler and it is about the same size as the factory part. I am dissappointed in the mounting because it sits a little low. I plan to go back and have them rework the tailpipe as soon as my Slee bumper gets in and will also have them tuck the muffler up higher. It has a nice tone and seems to run better on the top end.

I should be at the meeting next week you can look and listen.

I went with an 18" Hushpower II for the muffler and a 12" Hushpower II for the resonator. Both are light and small. Kind of throaty but not obnoxious. I do notice a bit of echoing in the cabin at about 60 M.P.H., but is smooth above and below. Pretty quiet at highway speeds and does not sound like a rice can farter on steroids.

If I had to do it again, I would probably go with a Flowmaster 50 series or a Magnaflow6" round keeping the 12" Hushpower II as the resonator.

Many people here go with a full custom stainless steel exhaust with aeroturbine muffler...I'd love to do that at some point, but it's far from cheap.
