| Ramsey winch questions Which Ramsey winches will mount in an ARB winch bumper? Are there some Ramsey winches that are better than others? I seem to recall reading a thread in the 80 section recently where someone mentioned that one series of the Ramseys is "better than anything made by Warn, except maybe the 8274" (I'm paraphrasing).
TIA! |

| I think their worm drive winches are not compatible. The Patriot and REP series should fit, but call ARB to be sure. Ramsey builds a great winch...made in Tulsa Oklahoma by folks that know quite a bit about getting stuck and unstuck. I had one on a '77 Bronco that was absolutely indestructible.

| Matt,
I've thought about their cheap 9000lb one. It is made in the US unlike the other companies cheap lines. http://www.sams4x4store.com/Ramsey.htm
Their Platinum and Patriot Series winches are very nice even compared to Warn's top of the line. The one problem I've found is price. They don't seem to be as competitive in the upper end on price.

yes i do. Patriot 9500. It is mounted using a standard winch plate that can be purchased at 4wheelparts or whereever. Winch was mounted to the plate. Then new holes were drilled into the plate to mount it to the ARB. I bought the truck with it mounted that way. So far it has worked just fine. I can take pics if you're interested.

| Planetary winches should mount fine, though Im not sure to what size. The Ramsey worm gear winch can be successfully mounted with some adaptions. Check out the following link: ARB bull bar and Ramsey RE12000 fitment
Cheers.

| So what are the benefits of worm gear vs. planetary? Is one more bullet-proof? |

| Among other things, the main benefit is its strength. The bad that offsets the good include slower speed and unusual mounting style. This winch (powered in the hydraulic motor form) is an industry standard for commercial haulers and tow trucks.
Cheers.
