Nicely Done!
I am curious how the dynamat deadens the sound of the MTRs. How many miles are on the MTRs? Was their a giant difference in interior noise when you sawpped tires or over time with wear? Dynamat sounds like a great product just looking for some commentary from someone running dynamat and MTRs. __________________ ------96-FZJ80 the snowchasing, gear hauling mountain machine-------- -----Now Accepting donations for a true Toyota Diesel Conversion!----- |

FirstToy-
When you say 33's do you mean 285s, 305s, 295s, 33x12.50x16 or what? I really like the way they look and was just curious, great lookin rig! |

It came w/ 285 BFG AT's that were worn down (see pic on pg1) and it was more quiet w/ new MTR's. But, MTR's get louder as they wear.
The Dynamat and MTR's were put on around the same time so in combo w/ new tires, it's hard to say exactly how much diff. dynamat alone makes... but it is noticable. 285 MTR's are what I have. I want to also get a winch, dual batts etc... after seeing them in action on more equipped 80's I am sold on the value they add... sigh, mods never end! |

You had an awesome 4runner and now an awesome 80. Always fun to wheel with you James. You've done wonders with a sweet truck. As always, your pics are a work of art!
Loved the pic of Doug and Alvaro's rigs at SnT. I didn't recognize either truck outside of LaCabra license plates. __________________ Brent '94 White LC; Kaymar Rear Bumper w/tire carrier; Hanna Sliders; ARB winch ready Front Bumper; Slee Transfer Case Skid Plate; Revo 285's, OME 850/863 Heavy 2" lift, INTI Rack; Warn M12000 Winch, Snorkel; Sputnik! dclee-
I installed the soundproofing material in the 1997 80 series only. The 100 series is already as quiet as I could ever hope for. It is the 80 that has worn 285 MTRs that contribute to constant low end drone and the custom exhaust. I installed "Dynamat" in the DS door only because I couldn't afford to do anymore. I then found a competetive product called "FatMat" that was a fraction of the cost. I installed it everywhere but the remaining 3 doors. I still haven't finished the doors because I'm lazy. __________________ '97 FZJ80 "Blue Ox" - ARB Bullbar, ARB Lockers, OME J's, George's LEDs, Custom Drawer, Kaymar with Tire Carrier, Hanna Quality Sliders, Hellroaring Dual-Batt, 35" Toyo OC, and more! 2000 UZJ100 "Grey Ghost" - Outback Rack, Sliders, 285 Nitto Terra Grapplers, Norcal 80s Sticker |

After tearing all the stuff out and spending the time to put dynamat or something similar in 80, would you guys do it again?
Do you feel like it was worth it in the end? Thanks. |

I had the truck torn apart for 2 weeks! My hands were all cut up from rubbing the mat on and hitting sheet metal with my knuckles. I think it helped a lot initially, but like everything else, you get use to it and only remember the long intensive labor that went into it. __________________ '97 FZJ80 "Blue Ox" - ARB Bullbar, ARB Lockers, OME J's, George's LEDs, Custom Drawer, Kaymar with Tire Carrier, Hanna Quality Sliders, Hellroaring Dual-Batt, 35" Toyo OC, and more! 2000 UZJ100 "Grey Ghost" - Outback Rack, Sliders, 285 Nitto Terra Grapplers, Norcal 80s Sticker |

Hey Jasper do you have a link to order the Fatmat? I have some Dynamat left over but when the time comes, would like a cheaper alternative.
Brandon, I only did the rear section as pictured and it was very easy to access it all. I would def. do it as it only took a couple hours. If I had to do anything else (doors, etc), it would be alot of work as Jasper said. I only plan on doing it if it is apart for something else! |

Very nice write-up and Cruiser--now here's the driver at Death Valley's Marble Bath:

Black was not my first choice but couldn't pass it up. Now I like the black b/c it's a bit different. Anyway, I think it was just meant to be. hehe
I really like white 80's tho. Here are a couple other things w/ my 80: RR locker was not engaging (it did when I bought it). Currently, both lockers engage in a NY minute http://paintlab.blogspot.com/2006/02...er-switch.html RR main leak (tho the leak has stopped w/ I put 10-40 in it) Going for Delo 400 in the summer as well. http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/78106-trans-engine-seal-leak.html RR hatch glass leak (hasn't happened again, will do some pre-emptive sealing this summer) http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/74162-rear-hatch-leak-pics.html I did the CDL button (from Slee) and 7 pin mod which I use all the time also the in-dash cupholder (again, from Slee) ![]() and my offroad light switch- Toyota part about $12. Part number is in Outfitting section I think

James,
VERY NICE!!! I hope to make it on an outing one day and see your rig in person. Could you post pics of your fuse box and the power points? Just curious as to which model you used for the fuse box and the placement. Thanks BTW...If anyone hasn't bought a TEQ or Pig emblem. They are definately first rate. I love mine! |

desertdude, yes that's my $12 Toyota switch for the 170's
![]() Robb, nothing fancy at all with the powerpoints or fusebox. Red arrow- fusebox location Green arrow-power for CB Yellow arrow-thru firewall to battery (50A fuse at the battery) ![]() just your basic fusebox, tucked up high. It is well hidden and not in the way plus easy access but I don't think it's ideal by any means. ![]() line back to 3 powerpoints. I put 2 in the bin- I figure when recharging, it would keep them from getting tossed around. Of course 1 for fridge. There is alot of good info in Outfitting about powerpoints, wiring and fuseboxes. ![]() Desertdude has a nice fusebox setup below-- this is good idea if you are looking at options.

What a fan club this guy has, and for good reason. Beautiful job, James! I'm trailing in litterly all the other modification areas, but I went all out with the Dynamat when I first got my 80.
Back when there was nothing rattling on it, and it had the stock tires, the insulation made a world of difference in road noise reduction. [quote=Bluto]Very Nice. ![]() time is almost up! I wanted to mention that I think the 80 is great. It's really special and built brilliantly, which you quickly realize when you wrench on it or wheel it. There really is something to the Land Cruiser name. I hope to meet you guys out on the trail! |

Lovely 'Cruiser Frist Toy.
I now have one of my own, but I am still jealous of everyone else's, too! And every time I see one, I want to make it mine! You have some pretty nice mods. I especially like the tires. Those are my "dream" tires. Wondering how you like them... Thanks for sharing all the great pics. And BTW, eventhough black was not your first desire, it looks really sweet. Moses |
