Very cool! I like the idea of still being able to use at least 1 rear seat. I have use for that on occasion. One question, did you take the carpet thickness into account when you cut the drawer faces, flip-up lids, drawer openings, etc. etc.?

Very Nicely Done!
Did you really build it? It appears to me that the kid is pretty good with tools!

Hayes, this is excellent work. You're too humble regarding your carpentry skills. I've been in the drawing stages for a few weeks thinking about config and dimensions - pros - cons. You've given me some great ideas. Thanks a bunch! Ernie

Very nice Hayes.
Just one observation. Keep the winch controls handy. The last thing you want to do is to have to fish for them in the rear, on a loaded rig. Specially if you gotten into a situation where you can't open the rear hatch... My first thought was that I'd move the control into the cab when I "was going wheeling," but I should probably just keep it in the glove box all the time. Very nice work Hayes! It looks like a nice cat scratcher
Question for you, I notice the top hatch is not secured (latched) Do you find this a problem? For example if you hit a large bump dow the hatch lid open and stuff bounce out at all? How heavy is it? I've run with a full drawer system for 2 years, now I'm going to change things up for a while and build a 1/2 drawer. You've inspired me! __________________ '97 FZJ80 "Blue Ox" - ARB Bullbar, ARB Lockers, OME J's, George's LEDs, Custom Drawer, Kaymar with Tire Carrier, Hanna Quality Sliders, Hellroaring Dual-Batt, 35" Toyo OC, and more! 2000 UZJ100 "Grey Ghost" - Outback Rack, Sliders, 285 Nitto Terra Grapplers, Norcal 80s Sticker |

Hayes, this is a fantastic design, and I completely understand your frustration with measuring "on the fly".
That said, any chance you'll post the final dimensions, or even the sizes of each piece you cut? You know, for the benefit of us lazy copycats ![]() For the record, I'm planning the same project, except with two identical (but reverse) boxes to cover the entire floor. I'm still debating having a one-piece top. Once it's all done, I want to attach something like this cage to the top: http://www.tuffyproducts.com/trunk/073.html I basically work from my truck (paid to 'wheel!), so effieient storage is my number one priority right now. I like the idea of drawers for the essentials like recovery gear, winter clothing, etc, and a cage for the trip-specific bags and quick-access needs. __________________ '94 lockered FZJ80 Get over it. That's really nice! It's obvious you put a lot of thought in to it and how you would use it. Good job.

So I am looking at Hayes cargo box design for about the 10th time since this is the design I plan to go with. Although I plan on only doing the passenger side, putting in a cup holder for when there is a rear passenger and herculining it.
But one thing I have noticed with this box and others with the flip up top lid there is NO latch on it. I assume that this is because things placed on top of the box would snag on the latch but there has to be something out there that could latch this top lid and stay flush. Maybe a hand size slot in the lid and the latch on the inside? What do you guys think? __________________ Mark 96' LC - 285 Cooper STT's | Slee Skid Plate | Eclipse Speakers | JD Bulbs | Rear Cargo Light | Durabaked | Visor Fix | Hanna Bumper | CDL Switch Check out SoCal 80's |

Great looking box!
Love the flip up, not only in the back, but in the front too. Excellent use of the empty space also.

Yes. Didn't want to have a bolt or latch sticking up. I might put a barrel bolt on the end/side of the lid eventually, though. Probably a good idea to latch the lid somehow. Post-up with your solution. __________________ Ryan Hayes '93 FZJ80 I was bold in the pursuit of knowledge, never fearing to follow truth and reason to whatever results they led, and bearding every authority which stood in their way. -Thomas Jefferson to Thomas Cooper, 1814 Flying Spaghetti Monster Bless America |

Sorry, I don't have dimensions. I sized the footprint off of a big cardboard pattern that I trimmed to fit. Even then, it was really an iterative process of fitting and trimming, fitting and trimming. I could empty the box, unbolt it, and pull it out to measure it, but...

Nice work Hayes,
I really dig the flip up top, that would be nice not to have to drop the TG every time. __________________ 97LX450, 141K, 285CooperSST's, OME851/860's, S/C, CDL 7-Pin, Landtank MAF, Slee SS lines, 100 pads, silicone PHH, Raventai temp, CDan parts throughout($5K+). nice work. this got me wondering if there is a box of sort that could be mounted where your spare tire goes. I have a kaymar bumper with tire carrier and alot of empty space now.
