I thought I might add a little tip I discovered that may help someone in a similar bind, especially if stuck away from home. I wasn't worried about losing anitfreeze so I just removed the clamps using similar methods mentioned in this thread. I found that the antifreeze that was leaking out from removing the cotter clamp actually helped me slide the engine block side clap off. After removing the the old hose with needle nise pliers I removed the top bolt and non-PHH that runs along the top of the engine bay. This allowed me to swilvel and bend the lower tab to make room for the new hose. I placed the new hose on the engine block and aligned the down tube with the new hose as best I could. I was having trouble bending the pipe back into the original position when I saw the OEM bottle jack handle on the floor. The hook end of the jack handle fits perfectly on the pipe and it allowed me to push and bend the pipe back to near original position with enough leveravge. My only worry about using this method is that bending the lower tab might cause a leak by breaking the weld near the tab on the pipe. This didn't seem to be the case and it seems like others have had success with this method. It feels good to have it done. Let hoep I won't have to mess with it for another 10+ years. __________________ 97LX450, 141K, 285CooperSST's, OME851/860's, S/C, CDL 7-Pin, Landtank MAF, Slee SS lines, 100 pads, silicone PHH, Raventai temp, CDan parts throughout($5K+). I just got done replacing my PHH. After reading all of the threads, I was thinking that it might be a little easier than it was. I couldn't get the lower bolt loose which ended up not being a major problem.
I did use a heat gun to soften up the new hose a little. I am halfway through replacing all of the other coolant hoses. My fingers need a rest. __________________ 94 Landcruiser |
