Ya then you'll want limiting straps too. Spring falls out

what didja do then? have a volunteer hold it in place while you bounced up the rock, or did you replace it after the run?
I picture some three wheel motion for a bit till you got to a flat spot to safely put the spring back

No it had to be put back in while axle was drooped. My helpful friend put it back in, once seated on the bottom the spring bumpstop holds it in place until I could back up some. It's definitely high on my list to fix.
Obviously not very safe.
Anyone found a good way to retain their springs?

you can either weld a little lock tab on the spring perch to hold it in place (on the bottom perch) or use limiting straps, or get shorter shocks.

i used the shocks in my old sami as limiting straps, shocks were just longer then my break lines so it worked pretty good.
ive heard it's not the best method but it works

You don't need people standing on your bumper in a flex spot with more restricted and balanced travel. "Flex" is not an independent variable.
But it does make for cool pics

Used to do that for traction (before they had lockers), to put weight on the spinning wheel. But, according to his sig line he's got an Aussie and an ARB so, - WTF - who knows? Maybe that's the only place they'd let him ride!

He drives a Jeep he's not placing one foot in my cruiser. I was hoping I could catapult him off the back

Well said! Of course, if you did let him ride, he would catch the addiction and throw rocks at his heep!
EDIT: I like the color of your 80(same as mine), 'cept you got the wrong year! If you had a '94 you wouldn't have springs trying to escape! LOL

or just run a strap through the hole in the center of the bottom spring pearch - and tie the spring down - I did it last January as a stop gap measure in Texas and have ended up never changing it cause it works!

Last weekend some friends of mine got bored after some camping plans rained out and decided to go out for a little wheeling trip, about 2 miles deep in a local trail, slick mud started getting really deep and rocks started growing fast. Apparently about 30 mins of pulling and rock stacking only made sure that all three trucks were buried. At 8:30 pm the phone started ringing and myself and a few other guys they called loaded up there trucks and buggys to go and start the recovery. We managed to get the first toyota truck winched out of the rocks around 11:30 The second truck a mini truggy got turned around and winched himself out, only after burning up an M8000, following him was the last mini. It looked like an easy exit until we hooked up the mini to a FJ40 on 42s and were just gonna rip him the rest of the way up the hill. At the top of the first slick hill the FJ backed down to let the mini by and then a small fire started up under the 40, he had seperated his transfer case from his tranny and dumped every once of fluid in the tranny.
I was behind him watching these guys pull cable in the 8 inch deep mud, up hill and started running the winch and pulling the truck up the hill. all looked like it was gonna be just a long pull to the top and then it went dark, the battery over heated and the winch wouldn't run without killing the motor.
by now it was 4:30 am
still raining, the temp had dropped 17 degrees and sure enough, nobody had planned for this to take any more than an hour so we were all stuck with no supplies.
long story short a few phone calls were made to a last buddy who decided to sleep in and take the "just in case you need me spot". He arrived the rain stopped and with a 10000 lb and me pushing him in the 80 we finally got off this hell hole muddy mess of a trail at 11:05 a.m.
The messed up part of this trip is all but one of the 8 guys we rescued and let by, left us out there to deal with our broken trucks ...needless to say we were pissed but i made some new friends and like they say a bad day wheeling is better than a good day doing anything else.
p.s. BFG KM2s crawled all over trxus and tsl s.

Body damage from the truggy backing into me to get a running shoot at the hill he never did make it up.
I just finished welding this bumper together the day before and hadn't had time to bend a stinger or ever finish painting.
Sorry about the camera phone pics, i really didn't think i would make to daylight to even get a decent pic with my camera so i didn't grab it...This is around 700 am not even half way out.
I really do h8 mud.
