Dan suggested I give this thread a read to understand the shroud trimming when putting one of the V6 fans in on my to be supercharged truck.

I thought it was a good idea to bump up this old thread for those who are in the process of supercharging their trucks. VERY interesting reading.

I ordered one of the V6 fans and some other fun stuff. Looking forward to the install next month.

Thanks for the bump !!!

I lost track of the depth discussion positioning the new fan inside the shroud. I have not actually layed-out the recommended fan with a trimmed shroud. It seemed that the thread established that the new fan is smaller but seems to move more air.

Would it be practical to put a bead of silicon caulk around the inside of the fan shroud to "tighten" the diameter to better fit the new diameter of the fan? If the fan shroud diameter were 1/4" - 1/2" smaller would it help the airflow much?

I'm running the ringed S/C fan with a blue hub and 1000 cst silicone. I have not had any problems with over heating and my temps rarely get above 185 even with the a/c on in slow moving offroad trail situations in 85* weather. I'm haven't had the chance to get into any hotter weather, so we'll see how it does then.

Here in az 85 is a nice Cool day and yes...I don't know anyone that has cooling issues at those temps. However, once it's over 100 and absolutely once it is over 110 it is a whole different ball of wax (wait the ball would be a puddle by then)

I could imagine that kind of heat would cause problems. For my climate, I haven't had any problems. If I ever get out of this ice-storm prone midwest I might have to switch fans.
