I love the truck. Great long range set up. Are you pretty satisfied with the Hannibal tent? Some day (hopefully soon) I'll be in the market for a rooftop. Not sure which manufacturer to go with yet.

???

Do you carry your two spares when you go on your long trips??? I am assuming so...do you carry them on your roof rack? Or do you still have one below and just put one on top? Have you considered a rear bumper with tire swing (or did you find it more economical just to get the roof rack and just put everything on top?)...or am i stupid and not see in your mod list you already have that?

Very cool setup! Where did you get the Hannible awning/roof top tent? Do have any pic of the rear of the truck with ladder going up to the tent and/or with just the awning extentended? I'm curious to see how you get into that thing.

Our first ROTW FJ80, wow what a great example...Love that tent! Have you ever considered more clearance for your under body with bigger tires?

I love the tent...I was lucky that Junk happened to get a new trailer and his wife wanted more room in the garage, so I picked it up from him. Same with the awning.

Most of the wheeling I do really doesn't require tires larger than 31", and the 3FE is already a slowpoke without adding extra tire to turn, so I've stuck with 31s.

Because of the 3FE and power considerations, I've not added the extra weight of sliders or a rear bumper. One spare tire is in the stock location, and the other is on the roof rack when necessary.

Here's a ladder access pic....

The cargo rails are 6' sections of perforated galvanized angle from the 'ol Home Depot. I've bolted them down to the floor through a 3/4" plywood section to the factory tie down captured nuts and added small shackles which can move to where I need to strap stuff down.

For trips, my gear is contained in Rubbermaid Boxes, and strapped down using ratchet straps...no bouncing or clanging around in the back!

Nice! I like that it's infinitely adj for different tiedown positions.
The awning/standing room on the Hannibal is pretty sweet too. Great setup all around, inside & out- inspiring!

Sweet rig, nicely done, do you have a pic of the awing closed and how is it attached to the rack, is that a Pelican case that the jerry cans are resting on? If so what size? I am considering purchasing one for my recovery gear. Again very nice rig

Cool setup! All of your mods look to be super functional. Me likey.
Also, looks like you've spent some time in Baja. I've done a fair amount of travelling all along the peninsula, and it's the main reason I went with an 80 series. After the last trip, I sold my 1974 FJ55 (vortec/nv4500) and 'upgraded' to a quieter, more reliable ride. I still feel like I kind of 'sold out' but, f#*^ it.

80 series are just THE bomber expedition/baja rigs. Especially when WE convert our rigs to diesel.

Cool truck, maybe I'll run into ya down there.

cool,

seth

Nice setup.. and looking at the pic in post #12... there really is ocean front property in Arizona
Also looks like it came right out of the ocean from OZ. (Doesn't look like any tire tracks in the sand infront of the truck)

One questions though... is that the GPS antenna right above the drivers "o'shit" grip? If so you aren't getting the most out of the signal.. that should be facing straight up for the best quality signal. Most likely not a major problem since you don't really need such precision, but in times of low signal it would help more facing directly towards the sky.

The Pelican case is from stock photos at www.expeditionexchange.com , it's a Rover oriented website, but the dealings I've had with them have been top notch, and the dual can carrier is very well designed.

Overall, the Pelican cases are great! I've got one mounted on the back of my motorcycle for secure storage of the Sat phone and papers on trips.

The black box above the driver's "o' $hit" grip is an old cell phone microphone, which I've since removed. The old Magellan gets suprisingly good sat coverage from that location, although I must add that I don't use the GPS much. My main usage is to pinpoint a position when I'm too lazy to triangulate using a map/compass

The beach pics are all in Baja. For those of you who've not had the opportunity to go, it's a fantastic place, with great people and stunning scenery. Since my first trip a couple of years ago, it only gets better. Having such a wonderful place for adventure and relaxation so close to Arizona is a blessing. Don't listen to the rumors of banditos and sickness! The Mexican people are warm and friendly, the beaches kick ass, and the fish tacos are unbeatable!

I'll have to get a close up pic of how I've attached the awning....it's simple, yet complicated to explain....

San Felipe is nice, Mariscos Conchita has some great food, and cheap too!

This was taken on the way to Bahia San Luis Gonzaga south of Puertocitos, and on the beach at sunrise!

Viva Mexico!

So H, the little black box is for the cell phone? I always thought was something to do with the alarm glass breaking sensor!

Guess I will be pullin wires tonight! Been meaning to clean the 80 from the factory motorolla phone system.

More on track for ROTW - Sweet setup! You seem to have fully utilized the 80 for your use!

Nice pics too of your travels.

Finally a rig with the 3FE powa . Very very nice rig, How do you setup the remote battery? Can you do dual batteries in a 3FE without the remote location?

There are several of my previous Baja trips in the Trails/Events/Expeditions section here on mud, as well as a short write up on my most recent (June '05) motorcycle trip. In the Outfitting section we had a thread going on equipment lists, and I've put both my Cruiser lists and motorcycle lists up there.

I couldn't really find a good place under the hood to put the second battery. I even looked at the new Optimas for hondas, which are about 1/2 the size of a regular one, but the Amp/Hours are less, so I went with the remote location in the rear.

My isolator is located on the USDS left engine bay, and I've run 4 guage battery cable down the rocker panel and over to the battery in the USPS rear cargo area. The battery is grounded to the body in the rear.

Curious if you have thought about a 4BT swap instead of 1HD-T. The reason I ask is that I'm looking to "move-up" to an 80 possibly and might want to do a 4BT only because of $$$ invovled in a Toyota diesel.

Your 80 is a perfect model for what I want my rig to be like when it grows up!!!
