Indash slide-out screen

Friend is looking at installing a Pioneer deck that has the 7" screen that slides out of the deck and tilts up. I'm interested in the same thing, but we're both wondering if it would hit the overhang of the cup holder slot and dash lip.

Anyone seen a deck like this installed in an 80?

Nope not me, not mine... i do have Pioneer DVD changer with Pioneer "8 headrest mounted with Alpine '6 Navigation, sorry not on that slides and tilt up mode. I heard those will go bad sort of makin noise after while or the screen will shakes loose.. but then again im not sure.. maybe others can chime in...

I had a clarion unit in mine and it slid out far enough if you had it on the outermost setting. I recommend flipping the pocket that the stereo goes into so that it is on top and mounting the stereo in the bottom level of the double din opening.

I figured mounting it in the lower slot might be the ticket. How'd you like it?

I loved the clarion (VRX 9500VD I believe) that I had but got tired of it and went with something different...mounting the control box can be a pain unless yours is a self contained all in one unit....wiring one becomes fun when you have the control box under the seat and have to run wires all over...Pioneer is a good choice as well...both clarion and pioneer are very easy to set up to play DVD's even while driving...you just ground the wire that runs to the parking brake to a chassis ground (but I did not say or condone doing this.)

You could have stopped after the first two letters.

Mine never made weird noises or anything slidding out....I just used common sense and left it with the screen in unless I needed to see the full screen for a DVD or to adjust the audio settings....I had it for close to 2 years with no problems...I saw no need to make the motor and gears work all the time unless I needed them to.

install pics

I got my deck installed a few weeks ago and figured I could post some pics. I went with this model...

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...089338,00.html

...because I got a great deal on it and will do everything I need.

It has a great picture and can be view pretty easily from either front seat with the contrast and brightness turned up.

bypass swith

I had to rig up a bypass switch so I could play a dvd while driving. I used a foglight switch for a 2000 4Runner. The screen can adjust to one position beyond vertical without hitting the upper dash lip of the dash.
