fog lights and Ion headlights

im looking to either get ion headlights for my landcruiser, and fog lights that hang below the front bumper. id rather just make cut outs in the stock bumper and put the fog lights in there. but whatever works. any sugguestions or any place where i could find a molding for the fog lights if i have to hang them below the bumper? also where can i find the kits with the ion headlights for an 80 series landcruiser?

Most aux. fogs you get "should" come with either self-adhesive(?) tape or hinges that would allow you to mount to just about anything. Few newer ones even come with wireless remote for easier installation.

I have thought about getting yellow, thin fogs which would mount in the bumper with little/some creativity or bet [edit: get] an ARB and put them in where the amber indicators(markers?) go. If you plan on going wheeling at all, then you wouldn't want anything hanging below the bumper.

As for the "ion" light, you can either get covers that IPF makes for the 80 which will give you the desired effect, while adding some protection to the headlight lenses, but according to (Idaho) Doug they will trap sand, dirt, pebbles, etc... and end up scratching them.

Another option is to just purchase ion bulbs. I'm not sure if I've seen them available in the type for the 80 9005/6 (HB3/4) since they don't seem to be as popular as they once were.

Anyway... HTH

Ion headlights? You building a Land Cruiser or an X-Wing fighter?

Seriously, HID upgrades have their drawbacks, especially if your heaqdlight lense isn't designed to correctly focus their pattern. If you haven't already, read the headlight thread in the FAQ sticky.

TParty, what year cruiser?

PIAA 1500's will fit in the cutouts of a '96, with a little trimming of the plastic inserts..

I haven't searched extensively (OK, I did ), I have found PIAA making the ion bulb, but not in the right bulb type, and also found CATZ making the yellow in HB3/4. HB4 in 51w (equiv. to 120w) and HB3 in 60w (equiv. to 130w). So it "might" be as bright, if not brighter than the OEM set-up.

CATZ also makes the fogs that I was talking about which "might" mount flush with the openings in the front bumper. MSX model.

I'll attach pics of the yellow bulb and its output and save the MSX and its light pattern to/for the next post.

HTH

[edit] the pic of the bulb is not HB3/4, but they have those available in those types.

For the most part PIAA bulbs are junk. The Crystal Ion bulbs they made were one of the few good bulbs and worth the money if you want a yellow fog lamp.

I used hella, piaa and ipf. I just got do doing what you are speaking about with the piaa's and found it to look funny. I Removed the install job and mount som Hella 4000's on the bumper. It looks alot meaner and throws some serious light. Not trying to change your mind just a different point of veiw
