Seat Belt Tensioners

The seat belt tensioners are giving me problems with my 94 LC. Passenger side is the worst. When you put it on, it gets tighter and tighter but won't release unless you unlock the seatbelt and let it reel all the way back in place.

I took the plastic trim piece off, and can see the tensioner device. There are two bolts holding the seatbelt assembly in place, one up top and then the one at the tensioner.

Is this servicable or are they a replacement item only?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

Bryan

The seat belts (rear for sure, and front passenger, I think) are designed so that if you pull them all the way out, they will only retract, this is a safety feature for kids and car seats/boosters. Does it only happen when the seatbelt is first fully extended? If so, the solution would be to only pull it out as far as required, then it will act normally (extend and retract).

Front passenger side seat belt

Hello,

The belt that gave me problems is mainly the front passengers side. I was not aware of this problem until my wife and I drove to CO for vacation in September. Of course, we were only on the road a short time before she LET me know of the problem and it was FIX IT NOW or go home. I used a rubber strap from a flashlight to tie around the belt up where she wanted it adjusted and it was held in place from then on.

I normally am by myself but I want this fixed and working properly. I'll add to this as I find information and a fix.

Hey C-Dan. What's a seat belt assembly for a 94, passengers side run these days? Brown please.

If somebody else can help here, please chime in. I'm going to take it off and out of the truck and see if I can figure out the problem. I could be a worn, tired spring that is not replaceable but could also be dust accumulation or something like that.

Thanks again. Keep the ideas coming.
