Homemade Sliders

I have been putting this project off for WAY too long and finally decided to buckle down and get this done. I researched here for ideas and different mounting methods, then dove in head first. I used 2x4x3/16 wall tubing and 1/2" plates/brackets. The "straps I used to connect the two were 3/8". I just could not bring myself to weld them on so they are complete bolt-on. I still need to finish the tubing and add the cat protection but at least at this point my rockers are protected. I also fabbed up some mounts for my Hi-Lift while I was at it.

These things are a lot of work, math, figuring and test fitting. Of my projects so far, I thought these were the most involved but definately something you can do yourself given time and a few along the way.

Kind of from start to finish...

Moutning method - 1/2" - Grade A bolts, one per mount.

This is the "cat strap" I came up with, the actual plate will mount under this. It is bolted to the existing (4) bolt pattern on the frame as well as underneath the slider with (8) bolts.

Hi-Lift Mounts (still need painting) Straps keep handle from making noise....yes, they are bolted on with (3) 14mm bolts.

As my rig stands today.....

Now to finish the tube work and start on a rear bumper.....geez, does it ever really stop, I mean really??? I wish I just had the cash to call Slee and order all this stuff (at times). My boys and I have made everything so far and they really have fun helping me (even if it takes 4x as long when they "help"), it's all good....

Curt

Looks great man!!! That's my next project, I love fabbing stuff myself as well, sucks while you're doing it instead of having fun, but in the end you can be proud, plus you save about 75-90% the cost.

LOOKS Great!!

Exactly what I wanted to see .. minimalist sliders! Is it imperative that the tube work be added
or is what Curt has on there now sufficient, especially for an expedition type rig?

The tubing is important for when you are off camber.

If you are at any sort of an angle, the sliders will do nothing to protect your body.

That is exactly why I will be adding tubing. It won't add much more weight but I do want the side protection, without a doubt.

I will get on that very, very soon. I want to make them protect the body but also be steps for the little guys and the spousal unit.
