Minor electrical problems, FJ80

Hey guys, my '92 FJ80 has a few minor electrical issues that I'd like to fix. I have searched out each one and found some leads, but I'm looking for more info, if possible. None of these things are big problems, but more of inconveniences that I'd like to take care of. I'll break them down to help define them.

1, Dash Lights; I have no instrumentation lighting. The shifter positions light up and other lights like the diff lock, brake light and check engine light work, but the bulbs that display the gauges do not light up. My dimmer is turned all the way up, all fuses are good.

2, Cruise Control; It will power on and off, at least the light on the dash will light up and then turn off when the button is pushed. Beyond that, nothing. If you try set the cruise, nothing happens. The very first time I used it right after buying the FJ80 it worked for about 3 seconds, the turned off and never worked again. I read about a solenoid, but thought that applied to FZJ's. Again, all fuses are good. Any help there?

3, Heater Blower Control; The heater blower works fine on all settings but the highest. If you set on the highest setting it barely moves any air. All the other settings blow the correct amount, I figure this is probably an issue with the switch.

That's all I have for now, if anyone else has had these problems and taken care of them, I'd love to hear how. Fixing those minor things would make driving the FJ80 a much better experience. TIA!

1) The dimmer turned off would be my first guess. Fuse would be my second.

2) You can pull codes from the cruise control computer. Follow the FSM to see if any codes are stored.

3) Dunno.

1. All dash light power comes from the tail lamp fuse by the drivers left knee, runs through the dimmer, and terminates to ground behind the left kick panel. Check fuses with a meter, not an eyeball; check dimmer and ground with a meter, not an eyeball.

2. Please explain: "It will power on and off, at least the light on the dash will light up and then turn off when the button is pushed." The CC lamp turns off when what button is pushed? When the CC lamp is on and you try to set a speed does the CC lamp blink?
Most common failure is CC actuator mounted on the right fender forward of the coil/igniter. Sometimes it can be brought back by removing it and excersizing the motor, sometimes not. Also the speedometer sensor mounted on the speedo output on the rear housing of the transfer case could be a problem, but the codes will reveal.

3. There is a blower high relay in the left kick panel. Top right relay.

A FSM will answer all your questions and is a pretty good read as well.

Dimmer is up all the way and fuses are good, as mentioned.

I'll look into codes. Thanks.

Great info, that's what i was looking for. I checked the fuses with a trouble light, easier than pulling them out. I'll go thru the system again and see if I can isolate the problem. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the dimmer.

Sorry, I was typing to fast & didn't write that as clearly as I had it in my head.

When I turn the cruise control on, the cruise light on the dash activates. When I turn it off, the light turns off, like you'd expect. With the cruise on, I try to set the speed and nothing happens. The light doesn't blink, nothing.

The rest of that info is very helpful, I'll play with the actuator and see what happens. Pulling the codes will be the best thing, thanks for the input.

Awesome! I will check the relay, would imagine that's the problem. Thanks for all the help, I need to get a FSM... I'm not even sure how to pull codes on this thing. I have a lot to learn about my FJ80 and appreciate the help from you guys.
