92 FJ80, does an FJZ80 rear axle just swap right in?
I have a 92 FJ80, does an FJZ80 rear axle just swap right in?
Or are there major mods that have to be done?
Thanks

Assuming it's a full floater that is going in. The e-brake cable would need would to be changed and the ABS harness would be removed.

It will bolt in just like the stock axle. Swapping the emergency brake cable was harder for me than the axle itself. You will want to have a set of 16" wheels ready for it before you start though, the 15s won't fit over the disc brakes. You'll have to do some searching if it's an e-locker axle (for wireing info). Mine wasn't locked but I through an ARB in prior to install.

Thanks everyone...
I think I will sell my ARB and just get a set of factory lockers.

What is the end result you're looking for?

Yes it will swap right in. You just need to change out the e-brake cable. Not very hard and a good upgrade. I'll be doing this myself shortly.

I could have thrown an ARB in my axle, I was more concerned with having a full floater than having a locker at the time. The rear third from a FJ62 was a deal I couldn't pass up. Personally, I would rather have an ARB'd axle over a factory locker. From what I've read, they are stronger under heavy abuse and the parts to repair are generally cheaper. I'm sure some will probably disagree with me though. Your cruiser won't be pre wired for swapping in lockers like the unlocked FZJs do. On the other hand, an ARB will give you an excuse to have on board air.
I ran mine off a free compressor that you can get off any GM that has ride leveling. It'll do in a pinch to air up a tire but it will be slow. I kept that and added a Sanden 507 (now called a SD5H11) and a tank feeding the same regulator the electric compressor uses with a one way valve inbetween.
Sorry, I'm rambling....cheap and easy is the auto leveling compressor feeding the ARB with 1/8" air brake line. Fast engaging and releasing with no tank to fill.
compressor

On the e-brake cable, just get one from a 93-97?
What about a master cylinder or a brake proportioning valve? I put a 95 Supra in my 40 when I went to discs in the back. Direct bolt in.

Anyone know if the stock wheels will clear the rotors or maybe 15" steel wheels w/ 3.5" backspace?

Yes on the cable and you can leave everything else stock.
