Someone on LCCool was running these for at least 1500 miles, no problems.

For the price I can't imagine that they'll last very long, or up to hard use. If I needed one for a mall cruiser and was prepared to swap them out every year or so, then I wouldn't hesitate. The price is certainly right.

Simple to remove the ABS ring with a hammer and screw driver or any other handy combination of tools. Tap from all around the "clock" so the ring comes off smoothly, otherwise the ring may bind causing you to get forceful...

Your only problem may be the length of outer spline and driveplate...sometime in 94 there was a change.

No they can't. At least for any reasonable amount of time.
The old saying "you get what you pay for" comes to mind.
Probably some cheap knock offs from china. Like the other members have said you'll probably have to replace them sooner than later.
Birfs are critical parts. Having one explode or fail prematurely ain't no fun.
I'd rather look for some used OEM toyota birfs here on MUD.

Pete

By the address, my guess is this is CV Unlimited, makers of the Newfield birf. IMHO they have a good reputation for selling mid line birfs. Know a couple of mini wheelers who have run them with good success.

I also bought 2 of the birfs Woody had a link to, the $165 a piece ones. I only got around to installing one so far, but I've put about 10,000 miles on it with no problems. I have beaten it on several occations with the front locked in/on rocks. I've had pretty good luck with ebay stuff. you just gotta know when cheap is too cheap, like the 2 for $77 deal. Under $40 for a birf would make me a little weary, $165 not so much.

I got a J lift, and some 35's on 15" wheels with 1" wheel spacers on the way, I'll keep you updated on how they hold up under locked 35's.

Shane

mine were ~ £50 GBP each, circa $80 USD

ABS version of these...
ebay (uk .co.uk site) item no# 220355135212

note the pix are wrong, they are correct for our cruisers, not exactly as pictured.

Less than a 1000 miles, so pointless trying to surmise anything at this stage... they do have a 1 year warranty though

They sell ones with the ABS rings. you just have to let them know. i don't think you can remove and install ABS rings on OEM birfs.

i've used these for almost 2 years now and no issues whatsoever. have been to moab, john bull, calico, and corral canyon (cali) and haven't broken it yet.

You can take the ABS rings off the OEM birfs.

I wrote the ebay seller to ask about these birfields, here is his response:

"they seem to be like the origional. they are 65 rockwell. they are made in china. we sell al ot of them. if y ou are wanting something for serious rock crawling i dont recomend. the long fiel woul be better. the only problem is that they will probably need replacing every 10,000 miles. the one i have hear shoud last 100,000 ile or more"

Found some other threads on these on some aussie forums.

Mixed reviews. If you're wheeling with them, you'll break 'em left and right. If you're just driving on the street, then they seem to hold up fairly decent.

I don't know why you couldn't, though I personally haven't done it.

I know plenty of people tap them off and press them on aftermarket birfs that lack the ABS ring.

I have a set, they seem to be built right.
Only time will tell, and I will never have anything larger than 33's with a 3fe on them.
