Transmission bump going to first gear

When I slow down and come to a complete stop I feel a hard bump from the transmission when it is going to first gear.

I tried searching but found nothing. Perhaps I am just using the wrong search terms.

Any thoughts as to what may be the issue ?

Thanks !

Reading between the lines, this is something new? ...or has it always done this and you're just now asking? If it's new, then I'd think it's something to be looked after, probably by an ATF change to start with, and then a throttle pressure cable adjustment and then if it's still there, monitor to see if it gets any worse. If so, you may be on the downhill side of your transmission life.

It's called "coast-down shock" and it's pretty typical, but shouldn't be harsh or so noticeable.

A quick check of the u-joints might turn up something loose as well, but the way you describe it, sounds like internal to the trans.

Dan.

Thanks for the replay fj80toyman !

I checked the u-joints and definitely is not that. Also that sound will be more metallic.

The issue is new, and I can actually feel the bump that is coming from the transmission. It is like a hard down shift instead of a smooth one.

Only happens in down shift when I am almost at a stop. It is not that hard really, but hard enough to annoy me. I asked the and she can't feel the difference.

I use Mobil 1 ATF, and it is aprox 25k old. I am planning to change it on my next maintenance at 30k.

I am not sure how to do the cable adjustment but will search.

I am too afraid that the transmission may be going downhill. Is getting a rebuilt one the best option ?
