Treadwright tires, for the 80 should be here today

I was in the market for some new tires in the 285 size range, I had looked at lots of different options. The problem, the price. I did tons of research and was convinced that Treadwright had a quality product. So I did it, I pulled the trigger on a set of 5 285/75/16 Wardens with their kedge grip (BFG AT style). Shipped to my door it ran me 675ish. Try and find that kind of deal for 5 tires. I ordered them Monday afternoon and Fedex says they should be here this morning, Wednesday. Not bad for fast service. I'll have before and after pics soon. I'll thow up my personal impressions after I have taken them around the block a bit. (a few thousand miles) With old man winter knocking, this should be a great opourtunity to test out the kedge grip in the white stuff.

I have seen these retreads before and they look just like BFG AT's.
Hey, with how crazy the tire prices are nowadays that price sounds okay.

I would be interested to hear how the perform and see some pics, also it would be great to hear your firsthand input on longevity, there is good and poor reviews so it would be better to hear from "the horses mouth".

I have those exact tires on my F-250. Only 1K miles on them but great so far. Even have BFG casings. Can barely tell they are reatreads. Would have to know they were and look for it.

Had some of the OTR's before (howler I think they call it now) Awesome tire offroad.

I put 31x10.50 on my 80. I am only 1 hour away from the factory so i picked mine up for $315.00!! Only have about 2k on them but happy so far. Good on & off road. Good inthe snow too.

My 315's from them were absolutely horrible. Noisy and did not balance on stock rims. I sold those tires right away. Must be a reason why they don't make them anymore in 315 and 37".

My 305/70's have been solid, though Treadwright did have to replace one of my tires because the tread did split from the casing. But they shipped it to me in Guam for free. Now I just wish they had a 37" option because I've got tire envy again...I need some contentment real bad!

But over all these tires are wearing great and do good on the trail though here in Guam the real mud tires like Boggers and tractor tires are the ticket because the mud is gets wild!

Ok so I know it has been a while but I have to say I have had a small issue with the tires. Everything is getting resolved to my complete satisfaction, so far. Of the 5 tires that I ordered, 3 tires were the slightest bit out of round. While on the rim and on the balancing machine you could see the tire wobble along the circumferential axis. The strange thing was the tires balanced out to 0's. 2 tires needed quite a bit of weight but 2 of the tires only needed an ounce! The shop that mounted them were very impressed with the tires, they have dealt with re-treads since the 60's. The old man who owned the shop (think Buffalo Bill) was telling me that when they did re-treads they would put cork, glass, and even old door springs in the rubber compound. He said it made for some wicked traction. Ok back on topic, he was shocked that all 5 tires weren't out of round to some degree. I am still driving on the tires right now with vibrations that are minimal enough to get used to but not ignore.
I spoke to Joel from Treadwright and he appologized for the inconvenience, he stated that he would get 3 new tires shipped out to me as soon as possible. No charge. As soon as I got the bad tires off he would send shipping lables out to me. I was glad to see that I wouldn't have to take care of any sort of shipping. That is just what any company should do to take care of their customers. I have been waiting for a while because the size I ordered was out of stock. The new tires should be here around the 17th of Nov. He promised me that he would personally put all 3 tires on rims and balance them and make sure they are perfectly true.
I asked if they had run into this problem before and he said that the BFG casings are the hardest ones they have to work with, From the BFG factory they have many irregularities. some of the casings they get in will be 1/4"-1/2" different in hight in the same tire size. Treadwright adds extra rubber to the caseings to try and get them all to a uniform size as well as balance them before they are moulded. I guess this could cause issues? I'm not sure. He did say that with any of their other casings they don't have these problems.
So for my conclusion If you get Treadwrights get any other casing than the BFG casings, and you should be good to go. He also mentioned that the load range E casings are better than the load range D casings from BFG.
I will update this once I get the new tires mounted. And if I still end up with problems they will go back for a refund and I will go with the General grabber AT2's. For the price I had to try the Treadwrights though. Appart from all of this I am still pleased with the appearance, value and service that I have experienced from Treadwright. They are doing all they can to resolve the issue.

Ok so here is the deal, I got off the phone with treadwright today and we both came to the conclusion that the tires weren't going to satisfy me. Joel mentioned that with the tires out in the warehouse that he tried he couldn't find any that had the BFG casings that didn't wobble or had ballancing issues. So Joel offered me a full refund. I am sad that I won't be able to give a great review and save a little money on tires but I am not going to sacrifice a smooth ride for low cost. Joel did mention that the bfg tread with the michelin casings would be the smoothest ride of all, so keep that in mind.

I guess I will have to go with a different tire.

For Customer service Treadwright deserves an 11 out of 10

For product quality I give them a 7 out of 10

I think that if I had a rig that only saw trail duty only, I would definately go with treadwright. For a daily driver....I would have to see improvement in product quality.

Now the dilema of choosing a different tire. I have heard good and bad about the General grabber AT2 that has me second guessing my second choice.

Sorry Treadwright, I hope things will get even better in the future for you. Maybe I will look into them again in a few years.

NOTE!!!!! My experience is with the BFG casings with the BFG copy tread pattern ONLY I have no input on any other type of their tire. From the sounds of it...Some of their other tires might be perfect in quality. Keep that in mind when shopping Treadwright.

Mine were delivered a day early, they were there last night when I got home from work. Being that I had to be back to work 6 hrs later I didn't have time to look at them, other than to note that they looked great but all were BFG casings...I'm keeping my fingers crossed as to how they will balance out and not be out of round. I hope to get them mounted tomorrow so we will see how it goes.

Bummer to hear about your experience with TW; mine was great, including the tires.

I ordered 4 of the the 235/85/16s, and while they were on backorder, it only took 3 weeks to get them to my door, half of the estimated time.

Mine are MTs on a BFG AT carcass, E range, and have performed great. I've had them down to MX, and all over AZ with no issues. Here in Flagstaff, I've had them in 10* weather with no flat spots or anything ood like that.
