Pesky Heater Hose opinion help
Hello!
Today I did some photo to the Pesky Heater Hose from my Cruiser and PO all ready replaced the hose, but I need to do again because of showing signs of leakage, and bulging ( I have 215000 miles on board), and I am wonder if you guys can say from my picture if the wet spots are from PHH or something else that I need to worry to.
Thank you!

The last pic looks ugly below the upper clamp, on the right side. I wouldn't waste any time getting to that, and definitely wouldn't go far from home.
Hard to say if the dampness is the PHH, but in any case it needs a new one. Find some silicone hose and constant torque clamps.

Why with the high price hose and clamps? He already has spiral clamps on it. He can change it in 15 minutes every coolant flush if he wants to.
It certainly needs changing now. A regular hose lasted 100,000 miles the first time and 100,000 miles the second time. I don't care what flavor hose and clamps you use, it should be changed no later than 100,000 miles the next time.

Hey Cowboy, you may want to do your PHH while doin' you HG. Look like a leak. There's also a wet spot on you EGR pipe connections.
In your 1st pic, that wet, oily bolt above the PHH is, I believe, one of the retaining bolts to the lower intake.
Much easier to get the PHH w/ the head off.
Good luck.

That "crumbled" look is just not good on a hose, especially one that catches so much heat. Time for a replacement.

Maybe if you do it every coolant change you can do it in 15 min, it took me much longer, even after I got the old one off. I went with the primo silicone hose and constant torque clamps ( 1FZFEPHH.com), I wanted it to be "one and done". I'll do it in 100k if it seems like it needs it, but that will be 10 years from now.

Make sure it's high quality hose. Gates Green Stripe, silicone (available at any big truck (semi) parts house, or get the kit as mentioned in a previous post), or equivalent. That hose sees some serious heat, and will be the first hose to fail. The 'high priced' silicone hose is not all that expensive, and the constant torque clamps work best with it.
My $.02

Because he won't change it. And the cost is negligible compared to the PITA factor of the job (even without Toyota's wonderful clamps) and the longevity of the silicone hose. And that's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it!

I assume the heat is from the proximity of the EGR pipe. Has anyone wrapped the pipe before?

Really? 15 minutes tops without those stupid clamps.
I've done a few. I speak from experience.
I once replaced all of the heater hose clamps with the spring loaded constant tension clamps for a customer. $200+ for hose clamps is just not for me.
having to replace your PHH every 100,000 miles is just not that big of a deal. It'll do that just fine on good rubber hose and standard constant tension or spiral hose clamps
However, I have met a lot of 80 owners, especially the former Rover owners, who are just not happy unless it costs a lot of money to maintain the vehicle.

If your heater hose were not leaking coolant right in that area I'd say high probability your HG is leaking. But with that bad hose right there and various air movements from the engine fan and vehicle movement it's obviously not good practice to call it a HG. I'd fix the hose, clean the area well with some spray in/soak/foam degreaser, then check it again in a month to see if you still have coolant in the head/block seam. If so, THEN I'd call it a HG leak.
Also, those are some of the best close up engine pics I've ever seen here. Mind sharing what you were using to get in there? I have a hard time getting my HAND up there, much less photographic equipment!!

I believe you, the first time always will take more time . I was running in so much problem with that stupid clamps and I expend two days go around to them ( I did other hoses replacement to ) . I was almost to gave up in the end. My brain doesn't want to work with me yet, just I got a brain injury from a car accident and I have hard time to get new ideas in my head . However, on next day I build a home made screwdriver from a screw driver and a "screw driver" in L shape use for furniture install and tape with duct tape and take the screw in about 5/10 minutes . No comment !

Thanks for the input .
I hope the PHH to be the leak, is looking like who did this job before don't tied to strong the left clamp . I still have some bad leaks, steering and engine and I am looking to post the pictures soon for more opinion on my new problem .
Otherwise, the hose was in good shape in despite that bump on the hose end. Check on my new pics, this time one is not good quality.
Hahahaha! Is looking like I have some high experience in something to around here. Well, I use a basic digital camera the cheapest that I found a Target, is a Nikon and I have few thousand pictures until now to get to this quality pictures. The secret is get the camera where you want to do the photos and start fire up like you have a gun in your hand or you are in a modeling studio with a model .
