ford 4.6 liter in fj80

i have a 4.6 liter engine out of a ford car and the whole car that is wrecked and was wondering how hard you guys would think it would be to put that engine in my land cruiser...... idk if it would be smarter to attach it to the toyota tranny or use the tranny thats on it and attach it to the transfer case..... give me your opinions and facts, thanks

hard and WIDE. that is one wide engine. i looked into putting one in an EB, and it wasnt practical. not enough power and too hard to fit. and that was with a ford tranny. good luck

I stuck one in my 1956 F-100. Used the front end so no need to change motor mounts. Used same tranny and patched together the wiring harness. The guages will be your hardest part.

Great motor in my mind though. Love the thing. Looking forward to the PI heads though.

You could get a 4WD tranny and transfercase out of a truck. Or shit at that point just grab the whole truck again.

There wouldn't be much LC left in your LC though.

Ford products do not seem to have nearly the aftermarket support for motor swaps that GM's do. Part of the reason, as mentioned above is the motors are way bigger than a comparable cubic inch chevy. Mostly in width, which as the 80's are an in-line 6 to start, there is not a lot of.

But, if you can, do it.

Sure it can be done. Will it be easy? No

Anything is possible I'm sure, but for the cost of all the "little things" in addition to the engine you already have you could probably just get the TRD Super Charger and be done with it. That is if your main goal is just more power. Trust me those little things will add up quick.

If you want the Ford engine to be different then the SC won't give you that.

There is more than enough room under the hood of an 80. Remeinded me of my old powerwagon with a slant 6. If it wasn't for that air box I could sleep to the right of the engine.

Again look at the power numbers. 225 stock HP for a older 4.6L. Not worth the 10HP gain if you ask me. That is if that is what you are going for. If you are really going to go thru that trouble sell the engine and car and get something that makes a bit more sense...either a lot more power if that is what you are going for or something completely unique. I love the 4.6 in my truck becuase it just makes sense. You need to ask yourself that question first I guess.

I don't think the adapter would be all that hard if you know the right people but it sure as hell won't be easy. I would go with one of the larger Bowties (and i'm a Ford Guy) if I were you and you wanted to swap.

Maybe a 7.3L? Same 225 HP at the crank but slightly better mileage...haha but you thought a winch and bumper was heavy

If you are going to put a Ford 4.6 in there, don't dare put a 2v in it. At bare minimum, go with one of the 4v ones and preferably one of the stock super charged variations (03-04 Cobra, 05+ Saleen, etc). And if you think there is a ton of room width wise, stick a Lightning in there, 5.4 with a super charger. Those things make loads of torque.

For the record, I think all of these are bad ideas. The money it would take to do this project could easily buy a TRD SC or a custom turbo kit. But if you've got tons of money and nothing better to do, why not.
