x2 on what Ebag states...Any fishscale (digital or not) will do - only issue that I can think of is you have have to undo a little of what you did to properly check the preload but nothing major. Only caution IMO would be to not drive it a whole lot. You could be spot on. But if you are real loose or real tight you could damage the bearings by driving it too much.

x2 on buying a silver star for a year or two, or three.
