HDJ81 BEB Change: Regular or Synthetic

is it better to use regular oil for the first oil change vs synthetic.

I plan to run synthetic in the future with the truck.

What do the gurus think?

Why spend the extra on the synthetic? Lots of good oil out there on the market for the diesel. I used Shell Rotella. It can be bought in the 5 gallon bucket at Canadian Tire.

These engines really want the JDM spec oils, but for your first run after new BEB, just go with the cheap stuff. After a couple thousand miles, change it all over to AMSOIL.

Your engine will love you.

I'm running the 15-40, but my engine has about 300,000 miles on it. If yours is low miles (and you're also in a colder climate), you may want to run the lighter.

Hey, how do you like the 3" exhaust? did you do that after you did the FT conversion, or at the same time. IOW, I'm wondering what difference it made?

Also, are you going to do an intercooler?

Ya, low miles. I suppose I should give the 5-30 a shot.
The Rage Big bore is great. Installed along with the conversion, so no camparo to the stock
squished pipe exhaust.
Love the kit. I originally wanted a Beaudesert kit but it was going to end up double the money by the time I airfreighted one out of AUS.
John at Rocky Mountain JDM is the man to call for a Big Bore.
Would love to do an intercooler at some point.
