Marlin Crawler 80 Series Marlinks

Hey everybody,

I have been searching for steering upgrades for my 1994 for a while. I found many options for upgraded relay and tie rod bars (Slee, Budbuilt, Man-a-fre, etc.) but not the ends. Usually offered stock ends and I wanted something other than stock sized ends. Marlin Crawler offers the Marlink, which immediately caught my attention. I purchased two Marlinks and they look and feel amazing!

The rods seem almost 1/4" thick DOM (Do not know the exact size) and the rod ends are 23mm threads ...

Thank you Marlin Crawler, great product !!!!

-Josh

I called and asked them about these earlier in the year when I was getting my rods replaced. I was told that they don't fit and won't work for an 80 series land cruiser.

Which lengths did you get to work with both relay and tie rod?

Breaking out the tape measure, looks like 60 series Marlink (44") works good length-wise for the tie-rod (I think the OEM one is around 44.5-45") but the 40 series Marlink might be a shade too long to use for the relay rod. Let us know which ones you used and how they worked once you had your alignment done

I gave the tech I spoke with, Brendan, the measurements from center of hole to center of hole, for both the links. On mine it was 42.5" on the relay and 49" on the tie rod. They cut the length down from there according to the rod ends.

They are amazingly responsive, I measured pretty accurately, before I took the old sets off, and set the new ones at that length. So it tracks straight.

Prices are: $127 for each Marlink which includes: One Rod, Two ends, Jam nuts, Grease fittings, and Cotter Pins. I also bought a stabilizer mount kit from them, which is beefy, which was $15. Total including shipping across the country was $292.

Pretty stoked!!!

Yeah ... Not bad eh??

They are very good over there, excellent customer service, and tech skills. They mostly deal with mini trucks and stuff, but some of the guys know and have 80's ...

I had the Marlin guys make me a tie rod and drag link over a year ago and they are top quality (1.25" x .25" wall). I only have one grip, there are no flats on the tube to aid in tightening the jam nuts. If I had to do it again I would either machine a flat on the tube next to each end or buy tube and burn on tube adapters. Much like a current thread on the Hardcore section.

Fj-80 tie rod tube adapters

2everest, I see you did a little grinding on your control arms so the tie rod didn't rub. It should give you room to mount up a clamp and install hydro assist.

Yeah, a lot of grinding ... It was not because of the tie rod though ... I am running the OME Caster Correction bushings along with Landtanks caster plates ... I am actually over caster corrected, but that is my plan, because I'm adding another inch to inch and a half ... It all moved the arms up more, which was rubbing even my stocks steering arms ... Little more clearance too ...

Hydro assist??? Haven't read much on that, I'll check out that link ...

The arms are beast ... Heavy!

Those are schweet! I was gonna order a new tie rod from Slee, but having seen this, I think I'll give Marlin a call. My tie rod is not so purdy. I bent it back to something resembling straight then welded a huge piece of angle iron to it. This should work much better.

Remember gents, the tie rod is a fuse of sorts. Make it too strong and you break a steering arm or knuckle or a 2,500 dollar steering box.

I need a pair of rods too. I have bee debating which ones do I want. My Slee tie rod has been slightly bent from wheeling trip few years back. My front relay rod is OEM and it needs replacement desperately. So if I am not mistaken, you have ditched the stock steering damper and mounts? What is this stabilizer kit mount kit you speak off? Any pix?

The only pic I have available, but you can see the mount. It's well designed and serves its purpose. Also, I was able to mount the OME stabilizer parallel with the truck again. The bracket with the two U-bolts was $15 extra ... I recommend this setup and marlin Crawler to anyone.

Words of wisdom as always. Howevr, Mr. T. engineered said components for 31" tires...

That same logic applies to the $2500 steering box.

Exactly, that's why hydro-assist is in my future. Now to break the news to the ...

...

Also, it's tougher to break a steering box when you follow a few simple rules (i.e. Don't try to turn said 37s when not moving in a rock garden)

Fuses are

Toyota has a great reputation of overbuilding everything, thats why the only rig running stock style components in the XRRA is Ben Swain's Home Grown Racing Rig.. 42's and a V8 on 80 series stuff (Built to the Max) ..

you don't see a lot of any other manufactures that can run 37's on stock stuff!

Really, in my short experience, 35's are tough on most trucks, let alone 37's .. These 80's are amazing !!!
