LED dome lights

Anyone tried any of the inexpensive ebay options? Here's one:
LED MAP DOME LIGHT BULBS 03 04 05 TOYOTA CELICA GT GTS:eBay Motors (item 290330539640 end time Aug-09-09 16:12:03 PDT)

It's 31mm which will fit an 80. There's also the circuit board type available with more leds. Just looking for feedback. An increase in light would be nice but I'm more after lowering the current draw. (Yes, I know the option that's been available for some time and hate to point out potentially lower cost sources)

i have george's led's. they are they way to go, you can leave the lights on for a few days, probally even a couple weeks and still have battery to start your cruiser. plus they produce a lot more light.

I believe the quality ones regulate voltage better and last longer because of it. your standard 12v power has lots of little spikes because of the alt. here is a link to his stuff it is the way to go.http://forum.ih8mud.com/merchandise-...e-modules.html

If you decide to go with the ebay please throw some pics up and let us know how it lasts.

I replaced all my interior lights from superbrightleds.com. The extra light is remarkable. I found out first hand about them when we were on an overnight club run and I was hanging out with a couple guys around the camp. One of the member in a 100 series had them in his trucks and it was very bright - also more of a bright white light.

And if you forget to close your door all the way amid all the camping fuss, you wont kill your battery.

Thanks for the link, MoJ! I liked the price and took the plunge, ordered 2. The map light is a different bulb, so somewhere else for that. I will report back after receipt of goods and install. I'd like to get the map light, too, 'cause that's the one I have trouble with leaving it on.

Yes, map light, 2 domes, 4 door lights. Took about 5 minutes to replace all of them.

Now my wife wants them for her Highlander...

MoJ,

I sourced my own luxeon LEDs (75 lumens), george's driver and copied his maplight. It works great!

80/100 dome light, quantity 2, high power 2-LED Festoon bulb $6.95 ea. (Options) Cool white 3022-CWHP2

80/100 door lights, quantity 4, WLED-X6 bulb $2.79 each. (Options) Cool white WLED-CW6

80 Map light, quantity 1, BA9S-XHP6-12V $4.95 each. (Options) Cool white BA9S-CWHP6.

The Optional Cool white adds a few cents more expensive. I went with these lights as I prefer the whiter, brighter looking light.

See also a wealth of information here (it's in the FAQ):

http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...hread-80s.html

FYI, I received two bunk LEDs from autolummination.com. I'm assuming they will replace them, but I did have to pay for shipping for thier return.

I have had the dome, and door lights now for over 2 years, the door lights I installed first (almost 3 years and one has burned off)

Do you have a pic of the 80 Map light installed?

superbrightleds.com

Ordered the map light and 2 domes yesterday. Somehow they already arrived today via usps. Light output from the two domes is significantly improved. Didn't see a huge improvement from the map light.

Money well spent. Thanks for the link murf.

Just a note that superbrightled.com is not the same as superbrightleds.com

D'oh!
You want the latter.

I dont but will try in the next few days - are you looking for what the bulb looks like or the light produced? It might be hard if it is for trying to determine the brightness by the picture...

FWIW, I've compared the superbrightleds to George's LEDs in the 80 dome lights and there is no comparison. George's is much brighter; more expensive, but you're paying for the output and the voltage regulation.

Ordered up door lights, map light & dome lights from superbrightleds.com, and got them installed tonight. LOVE the brighter & crisper light from them - very happy.

Note to self: if you have a 93, you don't need to order the door lights, because well, 93's don't have door lights. :newb: Woops.

Just another satisfied customer! I have been wanting to do this for about 3 years..... Man Im an idiot for waiting sooo long.

One of things I did not realize is all of the light assy's were hot as a mofo with the old bulbs in there.
So Im doubly happy with this mod ( all interior ) done.

They were replaced and I upgraded my two domes to 48 light arrays (like treerootco), and kept the map light the 36 light array. I also swapped out my door lights.

Furthering the addiction to new lighting after finishing all the interior lights and HIR's in the H and L beams, Ive ordered LED brake/turn 32 light arrays, and LED marker lights.

If I would of known the benefits and value (to me) of improved lighting, I wouldve done this sooner.

Going through the catalog and seeing all the monster upgrade arrays like the previous poster mentioned (48 light array!) really makes you think about it. That big array should not only light the truck up but maybe the surrounding area!

Replaced 2 dome light with the LEDs from ebay motors from OP recommend and map light from superbrightleds.com. No door lights on my '94. They definitely produce less heat while on which says they're drawing less from batt. - Could be brighter, but I'm happy with the reduced current draw and peace of mind when door doesn't close or I forget and leave map light on.

Hey I picked up one of these from autolumination

Bayonet
Item# 48 Led SMT Array , Color: Cool White , Lens: Square Ba9s

However whenever I put it into my map light slot, it fails to light. The light bulb I took out will still work though.

Trying to find a 12v source to see if the LEDs would light, I used my cig lighter blew a fuse but the LEDs lit for a second.

Any easy way to test to see if the LEDs still work using a 12v source other than going to school and hooking up a DC power source?

Also, any thoughts on why they didn't work in the map light socket?

I'm pretty sure that they are polarity sensitive. You might have had it turned the wrong way the first time.

x2. They definitely require the proper polarity. I also had two arrive DOA.

Murf, which tail lights did you go with? Did you replace the entire housing or just the bulbs?

The arrays are nice. They do light up the neighborhood, but still have a negligible draw. A buddy installed the festoons, and they just didn't put out enough light for me. The arrays are great for finding something the kids dropped/lost, or just finding a piece of gear during a camping trip.

I must be blind as I don't see the WLED-X6 series bulbs on superbrightleds.com anymore.

SUBER BRIGHT LEDS

Anyone?

I went ahead and ordered the dome lights & map light bulb. I went with the warm white ranges for best output. I also picked up second map light bulb in amber to try out for comparison. Stage rally navigation has shown that red lights don't upset the driver as much at night. I'll try and take comparison pics.
