Quick Exhaust & Gauge Questions

I have a leak in the exhaust at the joint between the 2 cats. Is there some sort of goop that can patch this up? Tape/wrap would not work because it's right at the joint.

Otherwise, maybe a muffler guy can cut out the joint and replace the pipe section - would this be possible at a reasonable expense?

My other question is about the oil pressure gauge. Every once in a while it seems to cut out. It just drops to the bottom line, even while driving at a decent RPM. Do you think it's just a connection issue, or could this be a symptome of something else?

Thanks for any and all advice.

I used exhaust sealer on that joint for the last two years and it passed inspection no problem. This year almost all of the rest of the exhaust has caught up with it and is in really bad shape. Time for replacement - but I won't complain that the original made 182K.

If you are not hearing your valves - then it is likely just the sender/wiring/gauge that is the issue when you show no oil pressure.

I think yer better off cutting out the two cats and installing one high flow cat. This won't cause problems with your O2 sensors, and your Cruiser will like it.

I had something like this, I pulled into an exhaust shop and they welded up the leak in about 5 min, total cost was about $15. That was about 4 years ago.

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I ended up bringing it to an exhaust shop to go with the weld method and they ended putting in a new piece of pipe between the cats where the flange was. More expensive than the quick 5 minute job but not very expensive. I can live with that.

Of course, about 4 miles from the shop, the Check Engine light came on. This really didn't surprise me nor does it worry me that much (the engine appears to be running very smoothly). Does it make sense now that more exhaust is flowing through to the 2nd cat and the 2nd O2 sensor that the computer would say: WTF? Should I be concerned? Can I just reset the warning indicator?

Thanks again for thoughts and help.

Pull the code, auto parts stores can usually do that for free, then post up the code.

Not sure if you fixed your problem yet or not, but just a heads up. we will be selling a replacement piece soon that includes the entire y-pipe section and a high flow cat. Direct bolt-in replacement http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...80-series.html
