New OEM Inner Hub Oil Seal different?
I searched but didn't see any thing that addressed this.
My new front hub oil seals are different than what is currently on my 91 FJ80. The old ones have a distinct groove or step on the side that faces outward (towards bearings), it also has a rubber lip that originates from both sides of the seal.
The new oil seal's metal body is flat on both sides, and on the side facing the bearings there seems to be a gap from the metal lip instead of a rubber seal. Also the new one has a coil spring behind the rubber lip...dont see the coil on the old one.
Anyone else encountered this difference? I'm thinking that what I have on there is either old oem part that has been superceded with a new design or that it is an aftermarket seal?
Any thoughts?

The wheel bearing seals, 90311-62001, have been the same since 1976.
Do you have new factory seals? Are they 90311-62001? If so, the seals in the truck are not factory seals. If you do not have new factory seals then that may be your problem.

Yes they are.
I've taken a pic of them both:
Does the side with the gap on the new OEM seal(pictured above) go toward the bearings & outer hub?
I assumed so but thought I'd ask to be certain.
thanks.

I don't believe so (if I'm understanding you correctly). The side with the spring goes inboard (towards the center of the vehicle).

Ohhh. Glad I didn't install them yet.
My logic was that the gap would catch the grease, but I can also see that it could be engineered to use the strength of the coil spring as a barrier to keep the grease packed inward toward hub. And if the grease got onto the spring it could work it's way loose.
Thanks firetruck!

Those are NOT factory seals, they are aftermarket copies. The label is generic and if you note it says "REF # ONLY".

What?
I'm suing!
Here's my receipt:
I guess the circled policy isn't quite etched in stone there.
Should I just roll with it and use them or is it worth the hassle of raising a stink about it on Monday when they re-open?
Thanks Cdan.

So is the packaging pictured definitely NOT Toyota?
That would be very disturbing to know that this particular dealer could not be trusted to sell authentic oem parts.
I really need to button it all back together so i may never know. Next time I'll just order straight from cdan.

Not a factory wrapper, not a factory seal.
