Well i managed to somewhat improve a huge rust blister on the ps rear door. Looks a little less like crap now. Did the bottom of the rear hatch and deleted the toyota emblem but kept the LC badge. There is also a small dent on the tailgate that got some lovin. Same as before, take down to steel, prime, bondo (satan invented that poop!!!), sand, bedline/paint. I kind of gave up on the bondo and it shows lol. No more rust and that was the main goal here.

Mounted the front plate to the bumper and removed one rear jump seat. Lubed ds door window.... I think thats it.

Well I started out wanting to remove the roof rack to repair the rust but ended up deleting it altogether. Two of the screws were stripped out, I proceeded to drill the heads off thinking that would do it. Nope the screws are frozen to the steel sleeves of the rack. By the time we got it off the tacks on the nuts in the roof were broken and the screws were cut.

F it, delete. I still have the ribs so I can go with a rack that clamps onto the gutters if its ever needed.

Not the best job in the world but it wont leak or rust....... for a while anyways lol.

This ones a 10 footer. Maybe even 15.

(Sigh) I think there are quite a few of us that wish we could get away with some of the mods you are doing.

I do have the edge of my windshield sprayed with bed liner to mask the rust, but that's about it.

I have a feeling this rig will be a big hit if you ever actually get to drive it!!!

i didnt just mask the rust on any of the spots I did. took all the rust to bare steel. it might look like shit but hopefully itll last.

just wait for the rear end body work/bumper im thinkin about lol.

More of the same. 3 of 4 doors are done now, I left the drivers for last since itll be the biggest ass pain. Touched up the tailgate a little, did the ds rear door sill, did a couple spots around the rear sliding windows.......

This body work shit's gettin old, I want to do a rear bumper and sliders! Maybe a skid...... Some 1.5" stock just fell into my lap (along w some 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4" lol), just a little piece, but now I have something to make recovery pts for this proposed rear bumper

Did the ds door and it turned out to be a hornets nest. Holes everywhere. Had to patch it and redo the inner part of the door as well. Turned out ok. At least its not a fist sized orange abyss.

this is why JDM toyotas are awesome for cruiserheads: all this time rustbelt toyota owners spend on rust repair, would go a long ways towards practical modifications, like the sliders, rear bumper, etc. Having said that, my '85 4runner was a 400,000km rustbelt commuter, and needless to say i've put in 100's of hour repairing rusty vehicles- mine, friends, and customers/employers. it sucks. but looks like you're doing a decent job, eliminating as much cancer as possible and welding in new steel.

Well, got up too late to go wheeling with any of the 10 groups goin out today so I hacked at the cruiser some more. Yes pete stopped by for a bit. Yes by hacked I mean hacked and theres more hacking to be done.

Cut off the oe hitch, cut off the oe x member/rear bumper, hacked about 3 inches off the frame, relocated the reciever to frame level, bolted it all in for now. I plan to incorporate some kind of tow hooks at the frame horns, and do some kind of wrap around corners. Oh and Im looking in to cutting the rear 1/4's up at the tape line in one of the pics.

Not much to report. Sam helped me do a little stinger and I threw some tabs/lights on er. I also managed swindle a couple bent tubes from sam and plan to build some sort of corners/side protection for the rear 1/4's using them.

Finished the 1/4's and Im pretty happy with the result. Kind of like a 1/4 boatside.

Cut the outer panel w a grinder then did the rest w the plasma. I used 1/8 to plate.

A couple pics of the LC's first road trip. We went camping in webwood at the chutes and the cruiser did wicked all loaded up.

Rear bumper wings tomorrow........maybe.

Messing w rear bumper ideas today.

I want the bumper wings to be removable so I plan to weld studs to some 1/4 plate, weld that plate to the frame, then cut another plate that bolts to the 1st plate. This plate will wrap under the frame for support and have the strut welded to it. The rear mounts will be the same idea.

So I have the mounting points worked out and am now just trying to figure out how to position a support strut that ties to the frame behind the rear tire. I was gonna make a nice boxed strut out of plate with curves and junk but that sounds like too much work. May settle for a square tube strut.

Meh, too much interbox. Gonna start cutting....

Made some progress.

The rear mount is done and I got the wing tubes welded on. Threw a couple gussets in the mix and cut out the rest of the mounting brackets. Oh I also figured out I like plasma cutters better than grinders...........

Still have to get the struts sorted out and the strut mounts welded on the frame. More gussets........... meh, just more work.

LOL been welding, grinding, and plasma cutting in the flops and shorts all summer. Theres cool lookin holes with slag even all over.......... Started wearing pants and steel toes recently but theyre freaking hot!

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Im on strike right now so I have some spare time to tool around w the LC. Dont get me wrong, Im not a lazy ass and I am working another job but the hours are good... Having the tools helps too lol.

285 duratracks should be on this week and I have an ome lift lined up through a fellow mudder.

On the subject of mudders, all of the guys Ive talked to are super nice, down to earth people that Im glad to be sharing interbox space with.

Finished the tube wings yesterday.

They fit ok and best of all are simple to bolt on/off with 5 bolts/side. I had to notch the ps strut due to the shoddy 1/4 chop I did last weekend. It was off just enough that the strut hit the bottom of the 1/4. I have an inch of room now with the notch.

Im still thinking of running a plate about 6" tall from the struts, along the main tube, to the rear bend. Opinions?

Id also like to eventually add some side protection using smaller dia tube but due to laziness its staying like this for now....

Half assed but I like it.........

Have to start thinking about sliders and a skid of some sort soon. Thats probably going to have to wait since Im taking the cruiser on a little road trip to see my parents..... Ontario (Sudbury) to Cape Breton island (Nova Scotia) with stops in Ottawa and Halifax along the way. Last time I did it in the taco I racked up 6000km in 2 weeks. Have to make sure shes up to it and check all the little things ive been neglecting.

This has inspired me, I can't do this to my 97 LX450 it's just to nice. but i found a 94 (not very well cared for) with 236k and lockers local that i think i can get for around 2k...I'm thinking project truck.

Update. Got a pioneer something or other deck and pete stopped by and put er in for me. I can finally listen to something other than the gay radio or the 1 tape I have left. Just have to wait for the pocket dealie to plug the hole under said new deck, ordered it today. Goddam theres a crap load of shit to unplug when you take the dash apart.

Also got the light switch in for the aux lights. We put it in a blank spot beside my ffrr diff lock blank spot....... So Im one step closer to having functioning ipf's.

Oh, I figured out that if I drive the LC into the garage forwards it freaking fits man. Up until now Ive only tried to back it in. Its all about the angles.
