Arrow On road tire choices

I plan to move to a less aggressive tire. Currently I run what is in my sig line.

I would prefer something closer to a Nitto Terra Grappler for instance.

Example:

Criteria:
  1. On road 90% , off 10%
  2. Half decent to good in snow
  3. Quiet
  4. Decent mileage
  5. 36 to 37 inch diameter
  6. 13.5 inch width
  7. Prefer larger wheels - 18 - 20"

Thanks for your input,

TY

BFG A/T. About the most aggressive A/T out there; no on the road drawbacks (that I've encountered anyway). Go for it.

look at the 'cooper' line tires, I have a set discoverer's "ATR"...great for driving on rainy/snowy highways, very grippy and very long lasting..resonably priced..they are good for everything, but mud.....

The BFG AT and Nitto Terra have been mentioned,
and are available in 18" rims. The Coopers are not available in anyting taller than 34"

Interco's Vortrac is available in 37" for 17", 18" and 20" rims.

If you're willing to run a (metric) 35" tire, I'm a huge fan of the General Grabber AT2. (Nothing bigger than 35", and that on a 16" rim.)

Nitto Terra Grapplers are the best A/T's that I have run, would never go back to BFG's after running them. At least half of our club runs them, with great success.

I must have the way oversize 34" Coopers!

When they are done will probably go back to Terra Grapplers in the same size, 37x12.5".

the Nitto tire will cost alot more money than cooper and will not last as long as the cooper.....

the nitto's are cooler looking, and that might be something you are looking for...

I realize you probably want more of an AT but when my wife was driving the 80 all the time on the highway in the snow we purchased the Goodyear Forterra Triple Treds. They are a 10/10 for dry wet and snow conditions and a 5/10 in mud. These also have a 60000 mile warranty and have been the best road tire IMO i have ever had!

I meant the ATRs from post #3.
I want a set of 325/80R16 STTs for my stock alloys.

You want Trxus MT's to replace those IROKs. They will be as quiet as an AT, monsters in all winter conditions, and still seriously good offroad in virtually all conditions. In a wet climate, you leave way too much on the table with AT's without saving any material coin.

Plus they look awfully good in a 37 (this is stock backspace, I have them on 1" spacers now)

Two thumbs up for the Terra Grapplers. I have had BFG A/t's and Tyro MT.

I put 10k miles on my terra grapplers in 3 weeks and was more than satisfied. Ebay has some good prices too.

Terra Grapplers in 37's cost as much as a relatively expensive MT...

Agree with Tools 100%. I wont be going back to the BFG's either after switching to the Nitto Terra Grapplers. Awesome in the snow and excellent road manners. Spokane had 61" of snow in December alone last winter and when visiting the in-laws they proved to be impressive for winter driving to say the least.

BTW my local Discount Tire matched internet pricing (including shipping to your door). Found a great deal on E-bay with free shipping and they matched it....

Has anyone with the Terra Grapplers also run Bridgestone Revo ATs? I'd like a comparison from someone who has extensive experience with each. Seems a solid consensus that the Terra Grapplers are better than the BFG ATs but there is also a solid consensus that the Revos are much better than the BFG ATs. I'm just wondering whether someone can compare the Grapplers to the Revos. Thanks.

Nice .. good for them!!

We get a bunch of snow here as well .. and they say summer is a bad week of skiing, so you're speakin my language. I was hoping the terra grapplers were more than purty.

My tire contact can get a pretty good price on them, the 37's that I had priced were about the same $$$. My Coopers are good for ~30K mi, the Nittos go 50K+ and the Coopers chunk worse than average in the rocks. My rig is my DD, so the $ math works better for the Nittos. It comes down to the tire age thing, I prefer tires to go close to 4yrs and have been burning the Coopers off in ~2.5 years.

The new Goodyear MTR's look cool, but they are very proud $$$$ of them. Will let others test them and see how it goes, maybe try them after some of the newness $$ rubs off?

Very few that wheel here run Revos, or any of the 'stones, they have a reputation for acquiring sidewall vents in the rocks.

Yup, I sliced the sidewall wide open on my Revos within a few thousand miles of getting them. But, I also sliced my BFG ATs and AT/KOs. Seems I slice at least one with each set. Still, lots of folks here run Revos, I've just not heard a comparo btwn them and the Grapplers yet.

really like my nitto terra grapplers. Smooth on the road, however they are not super quiet. That is the only draw back i have found. They do really well off road and in the snow.

I have been very happy with these Nokian Vatiiva A/T

I plan to get the same when these wear out. I have had them for ~ 4 years / 30,000 miles and they are still in decent shape. Good in snow and not noisy on the road.
