I used the universal ram mount in my 80 to mount a netbook. It works great. I'm running oziexplorer and delorme topo. I'll post pics later...

I have the Ram mount tough tray with a medium arm and a holder bar mount to use with my 12" toshiba tablet PC.

I held it to the passenger holding bar that come in the early models. It didn't work at all as soon as the trail got a little rugged. All the dashboard started to crack a lot at every single bump and it seemed that it was going to break, also, the holding bar mounts seemed to be flexing. I got scared and removed the Ram mount. And that's with a light 12" tablet Pc, imagine with a 15" laptop.

Now I'm thinking into reinforcing the holding bar by doing some kind of "timber" under it (to make the passenger even happier) or maybe do some kind of floor mount, but I don't feel like spending more money in Ram accessories (they are kind of expensive here).

FYI - I picked up a RAM Mount today, but have to return it. Seems like my MacBook Air will not fit without completely getting rid of my passenger seat.

SUCKS, I really wanted to try and mount the MBA in the truck.

No worries... I'l have to wait for Apple to come out with something smaller.

Why would you have to get rid of the passenger seat?

Here's what I have:

It doesn't impede too much on the passengers comfort. The passenger or driver can easily use it by rotating the arm. I'm very impressed with the tough tray however the universal mount is a little bulky looking. If you could use the jeniko mount with a custom bracket to use factory seat holes (seen somewhere here on mud) then use the ram tough tray instead of velcro with jeniko's mount. I don't like using velcro.

I can get a picture of the legs if you want...

Your laptop is smaller than mine... I thought the MacBook Air was small enough for this application, but it really is not.

I'm going to start looking for a small ToughBook.

I would be curious to see how you mounted it... Send me some more pics!!!

That's what you get for buying a dang Apple. Buy one of those netbooks, it should be easy to fit one.

Yes please. Any detail pics of the mount and how you secured it would be valuable.

Thanks.

I use Jotto Desk and am very happy with it. For the mount, a solid bar was bent that attaches to the front factory seat mounting bolts. This is a very solid mount. The passenger doesn't feel like his/her space is encroached and the laptop can be placed so that the kids in the second row can watch movies.

Cool. What model Jotto desk is this? Universal? I didn't see anything specifically for an LC on their website.

Thanks.

Yup, universal unit.

Regardless of what unit you go with, triangulation of the mount is key. The more solid the mount, the less wobble you'll experience over long term.

I was on their site and don't see that mount with the curved bar like you have... Can you upload some bigger pics???

It looks like the Jotto takes up much less space...

How difficult is it to remove the computer? That was another problem with the RAM, the computer really needed to be perm. mounted there.

Curved bar was a custom home made job! It had brackets welded to it so it attaches to the front two seat mounting bolts.

Laptop is very easy to remove, about five seconds. Normally I remove the entire top portion of the mount and leave in the garage. This leaves only the vertical riser bar (second pic).

I was looking at those mini laptops by other brands and they seem to be perfect for vehicular use/abuse. There is enough RAM/ROM to satisfy most GPS and nav software and the cost at Fry's electronics was something ridiculous like $279!! With something this little & light weight, you can get buy with a different mounting solution; almost like mounting an IPOD or satellite radio to your dash. It was very tempting....

Mine is a Fujitsu slate with a daylight viewable screen, a great option for a rig PC. The mount that I whipped up for Cruise Moab has worked well. Still need to add a brace rod to go to the rear seat mount bolt, when in the ruff stuff it has more front to back movement than I prefer.

Made an angle bracket and a drilled metal rod to go over the seat bolts. A buddy (thanks Brittan) bent some 1” tube, some grinding, welding and good to go. Made the tube two piece, so one bolt removes the top part. Usually on trail days I just unscrew the collar on the ball joint to remove the PC, only takes a second.

The mount for the slate is a bent piece of aluminum with Velcro and cabinet clips that catch in the docking port holes, slots in the slate.

I bought a toughbook CF-74 last year and turned it into a Mac this year.

Give me a few days and I'll try and post some decent pics of it and the Jotto mount.

A few images from today:

It's a universal Jotto mount. I did go into the tranny hump as suggested, but used far larger hardware then the teenie screws it came with.

I also wired up an iPod. Charges off the lighter for now, and runs into the stereo. I also have it wired to a transmitter mounted under the mount.

The laptop blocks also zero view .. and make sure you get the screen holder accessory! Worth it's weight in gold on trails.

Last...

Fastened a steel hook of sorts onto the deck of the mount which nicely traps the iToughbook.

Tyler,

Once again laddie, well done!!

I'd been searching everywhere for indication if anyone had hackintosh'd a Toughbook model. We'll have to talk more about that.

The tablet though is an intriguing option also!! Anyone know if that's hackintosh-able?

Nice job on the mount fabrications. Kudos all around. ...man, i wish i had a welder.
