I have to laugh a little on that one, well put.
But that does really suck. $$ and cleanup. Hopefully no animals were harmed during this change.

shoot thats childs play . I chamged filters and oil on a Chris Craft cruiser I refubbished with twin screw 350's in it. The filters are hard to reach on these ,esp the port side and I thought I did a great job - heh heh.The port filter came off but left the gasket in the block. I had 8 qts of oil in the bilge in minits and the bilge pump was very quick to pump it into the water at the marina, talk about a nite mare

Been there on the Valdez thing. At least you had an excuse with the wire interfering. I drained, put new filter on and poured two gallon jugs of Rotella T Synthetic in it. As the last drips went in I realized I could hear a draining sound under the truck. Yep, didn't put the plug in - went right through the engine into the oil catch pan. A $ 45 engine oil flush!

Tell her "she" is lucky it was clean oil.
I know "a guy" who did his first oil change on a dry sump Porsche. It takes exactly 2 seconds for 11 quarts of hot oil to exit an 1" dry sump oil line! Tip of the week: Use a big catch pan and go slow.

Cleaning up oil
I used to have a nasty commute. 125 miles per day with 75 minutes on the road. For that I drove a '91 Ford Escort. Since I was changing the oil every 3-4 weeks on it, I had it down to a pretty good science. Ramps, drain, change filter, fill, drive it off the ramps and out the garage the next morning.
So, one morning after an oil change I jumped in the car, fired it up, backed out of the garage and there was a monster spill all over the floor. I was wearing a suit.
Inside, call work that I would be a half hour late, change, pull the filter and... Two O rings. Fix it, fill with oil, shower, suit up. I had to leave the mess on the floor to clean up 10 hours later.
Now... how I was taught is the best way to get oil out of concrete (at least that I know of).
HiDry - pile on liberally to the spill. Wait 15 minutes. Sweep. Big blackish stain remains.
HiDry - just a thin layer. Then use an old paving brick (the solid kind with no holes) and get on your hands and knees and grind the HiDry into the concrete using the brick. Sweep. Stain gone.
Double garbage bag the used HiDry.
IMHO YMMV

Ah, it brings back memories, like the 1st time I did an oil change on my 80. Eight quarts! Ah, that's a typo. I found out it weren't no typo when my normal sized catch pan was overflowing 3/4 of the way through the drain process! Wow, some oil company struck oil - under my truck!

I alway double check the plug after the 1st quart goes in.
I took it to a fast-lube place once, the poor kid pumped a few gallons through the motor... asked me "hey! how much oil does this thing take?!?" then we realized the plug wasn't in the pan.
They tried (feebly) to charge me for the extra 15 quarts (not kidding) but I just laughed.

Oh yeah! Beat this for a dealership oil and lube noob story...
My sister owned a little Geo Metro commuter car that she took into a GM dealer for an oil change, things went well until the tranny seized on the highway a couple of hours after she picked it up. She had it towed home and I took a look. Engine oil level was twice as high as it should be... which led me to investigate further.
As it turns out the trans-axle was empty of oil. The Lube Noob inadvertently drained the trans-axle from underneath the car while it was on the hoist, put the plug back in, lowered the car and used the auto-dispensing oil gun to fill the engine, obviously without checking the dip stick.
The bearings in a manual transmission can run for quite a while on boundry layer lubrication! She drove the car to the next town and back down the freeway then drove it to work before the transmission seized - must of been the better part of 80 km (50 miles) or so.
The shop manager at the dealership didn't believe my synopsis over the phone. He came by the house and took a look for himself, at that time he agreed that they would pay for the rebuilding of the tranny!
