Just Curious

Hey all, I currently have a 1997 Landcruiser with about 180,000 miles. It has been in my family right from the get-go. The problem is its endured 11 new england winters and it is definitely showing.

It is my daily dirver/off roader but i dont know for how long it will last. i thought my summer car would help out, its a 4 seater but realistically wont sit any more than 2 1/2 and thats not cutting it. I am leaning towards getting another 80 from down south for a DD and keeping mine for offroad/winter, it has been my rig since i got my liscense and cant let it go. sorry for the history lesson just wanted to give you some insight.

Ive been battling with this for quite some time and figured id get some help from the experts. Would it be smart to get another one and help tone down the miles, or should i run it till it enevitably falls apart? thanks for your help, cant tell you how much i use this site to help me maintain and work on the LC.

It still has some life in it if it has been maintained, lots of folks have close to 300k on there 80's. If the problem you have is rust, then you might be able to fix that too. Not too sure about rust repair, I live in the southwest!!

as long as you do the head gasket and do the preventive maintenance you should be fine for many years the key to keeping these trucks on the road is the maintenance and quality parts

where about in newengland are you?

Personally, I would drive her til she's dead... You are a long ways off if you keep her maintained.

Its time to check for water in the oil and make sure every ground lead has a good connection. If you don't have a check engine light you don't have a problem. The price is also prime to buy another now too. Probably $7K (US) and you have another at your door...! What a quandary....
