Good Idea / Bad Idea

Probably a stupid question bit I am still fairly new to all this. I have a few mods I am thinking about and would like to know which ones are Good Ideas / Bad Ideas. They are as follows:

Good Idea / Bad Idea

1 - Limb Risers

2 - Axle Cams

3 - Tire Pressure Monitors

Any comments? My 80 is almost done after spending seven (7) months in a build process. I am trying to finalize the last mods to be sure I did not miss anything ... so I can actually drive it for the next 10 years...

Limb risers can be very helpful in the northeast and northwest; basically anytime you are wandering along tight, overgrown trails with a lot of foliage. I was following your discussion about roof rack lights, and you'll need to look at where the limb risers end so they send branches up and over the lights.

Axle cameras I don't see as needed. I prefer skid plates and a spotter. If I'm that concerned about the debris underneath my truck it's time to stop and get out and look for myself.

Tire pressure monitors I don't see as needed. Especially if you can't control tire pressure from the cab, the way some mil-spec vehicles can. That is more of a military, "running at high speed thru hostile terrain" scenario. Having simple on-board air makes more sense. On an 80 you would only drop pressure for extended trail runs or sand, I don't see a reason to warrant constant monitoring of tire pressure.

When do we see pictures of this beast?

If by 'axle cams' you mean castor correction bushings....

get 'em.

Like some other threads have mentioned quick disconnect for Limb Riser sounds like a good plan if you go that route.

x2 axel cams (unless like mentioned caster correction) not needed.

x2 Tire Pressure monitors not needed.

Limb risers are a good idea. Axle cams give you cool points

What about instead of tire pressure monitors you go with the Staun internal beadlocks? They run about $160 per tire.

Thanks...all good input.

Hmmm...controlling tire pressure form vehicle eh? I should mention that to my builders and see if it sends them over the edge....LOL

I do have an Extreme Outback Magnum Air Compressor mounted right behind the Milemarker 12K hydraulic winch on the ARB Deluxe Bumper.

07. ExtremeAire Magnum

The limb risers I am sold on.

The axles cams I am thinking might be good for me. I will often be out alone scouting locations or dropping off a film crew somewhere fairly remote ... and I may not have a talented spotter handy. I also may use the vehicle for a TV Pilot on off road adventures.

I was waiting until is done to post pics....it will be a long post...7 months of building...and a lot of time and $$$$$$$$$

1) Limb risers are great and have served me well, but expect random people to ask you what they're for at least twice a day (even with huge elephant ears hanging from them)

2) Axle cameras are great for rocks, but if you play in the mud as much as I do, they won't do you much good

3) Tire monitors are cool, but internal mount sensors are still pretty expensive
The cheaper external mount sensors will work, but are prone to damage and theft
I personally check my tires way too frequently to need one, but that's just me

So far I have not thrown anything at you guys you can't handle ... albeit, I have tried ...

We'll see if I can stump you with the ejection seat, smoke screen, tire spike deployment, and turret guns that pop out of the hood ... that is Phase 4 of the build...

I found this.

already anticipated the ejection seat thus the explosive bolts on all the door hinges

Q died. RIP Bond gadgets will never be the same!

Limb risers look cool when put on, but are fairly useless in the desert! I removed mine. Kicked myself for NOT putting on quick disconnects. Wish I had to put on for trips only and off the rest of the time.

on the axle cams and pressure monitors.

So when my neighbor closes his garage door it blows the doors off my rig and sends my passenger seat into the tree...nice.

Here's another opinion.

Limb Risers-99% poser material. Maybe in South America or if you live in the jungle but here they seem to catch on stuff and get damaged, or damage your roof rack. Real Cruiserheads will mock you behind your back. At least make them easily removable.

Axle Camera-This is just silly. Way too gadgety. You're building a Land Cruiser not a rANGE rOVER. The guys who have driven Land Cruisers around the world and to the ends of the earth, do not use axle cameras. Learn to drive and read the terrain. The first bit of slop you go through, is going to splash mud on the camera and make it useless. Only helpful if you are always in dry rocks or for spotting yourself over the speed bumps in the Starbucks drivethrough.

Tire Pressure Monitor-Why? I've seen these snagged and ripped off twice but admittedly on H1s. Check your tire pressure before you leave in the morning and otherwise forget about it. Even when wheeling hard, flats are not that common.

There is a fine line between tastefull well thought out functional mods and trucks that are modded for "bling". Don't cross that line.

Possibly...but not sure I agree. The limb risers would be removable and I am mostly concerned about brush. They may get hung up in thick stuff....you could be right about that. I can install them and remove them if they turn out to be more trouble than they are worth.

Also, this vehicle may very well be used in a Pilot for a TV Show ... or at the very least the vehicle will be seen on camera in a pilot for a TV show.

Real Cruiser Heads already laugh at me behind my back so that is not a factor for me....
