Pin 7 Mod, CDL & Lockers, HELP! (pics)
I just bought a 94 FZj80 from campoj2, its locked but not locking.
Please bear with me as I try to explain this right, Hopefully someone can make sense of all this and help me out.
He (campo) bought factory locked axles (he thinks they are from a 95) had them rebuilt by IPOR and then installed.
He put a CDL switch in
He said the owner before him did the Pin 7 mod (more on this to follow).
He put a new OEM harness to the front locker
The rear axle still needs a floor and sill harness (I think that's what he told me?)
From what I read the lockers won't work at all untill I get and hook up the rear locker harness....am I right??
Will not having the rear locker harness effect anything else??
I had a little bit of time this afternoon so I went out to fool around with the truck. I was not sure where to start on this but since the CDL is not working I figured I'd start there. From previous searching (i have Troubleshooting the Toyota FJ80 Land Cruiser Center Diff Lock (CDL) | Pacific Northwest Backroad Adventures and Slee - Pin 7 Mod for CDL (Toyota 80 Series Land Cruiser) and others saved in my favorites) I remembered reading something about 2 black & blue wires, (one being thicker than the other) so I checked that first.
Is this the right (7th pin) one???
The pic is not that great, its the thicker one of the two, 3rd from the left.
After reading Slee's write up on this I think that is the wrong wire (its kinda hard to tell from their pictures), so I pulled what I thought was the right one and replaced the other but still nothing lit up.
I then put all the wires back in and still nothing lit up.
I can hear the center diff lock relay 'click' when I push the CDL button on the 94, but on my 91 I hear a "hhmmmm" then 'click'. So then I swapped the transmission control relay from the 91 into the 94 but still nothing and all I hear is a 'click' no "hum" noise first.
I also started the truck and put it in low, nothing lit up but it was in low range for sure.
Also when I turn the key on I get 2 diff lock lights that light up for a few seconds, if I turn on the lockers with the key on those 2 lights blink. I know that normal but should I have a 3rd light for the CDL switch????????
For the Pin 7 mod, what wire is it....
3rd from the left OR 3rd from the right??????????
I think its the 3rd from the right, after I know FOR SURE then I can go from there.
Thanks for any help and feel free to offer and advice, comments, or suggestions.....I'm all ears.
Aaron

Instructions are quite clear. Pin #7, black wire with a blue tracer.
The larger wire is in Pin #5 and is clearly a blue wire with a black tracer.
It appears that one of your POs pulled pin #5; blue wire with a black tracer. You need to stick that one back in the connector, make sure it works (not clipped somewhere else) and pull pin #7 from the connector.

Your right they are quite clear, I failed to mention in my first post that I'm color blind.
I did put that wire back in and pulled what I thought was pin 7, but still nothing. So I then put pin 7 wire back in and still nothing, even with all the wires in.
Dumb question but, what should light up when you push the CDL, the switch its self or a 'diff lock' light in the cluster??

You may need to engage it by driving around in a dirt (or low traction surface). Mine worked my for a few years, happened to be when I installed my CDL switch and 7pin mod the actuator got stuck. Long story short it had to be un-stuck. Like all the threads say you may have to click it a few hundred times. In my case my friend (with better know how) use the 9v trick reverse the polarity until it "un-stuck" (I think that what was the case)
All the same worried on about it sticking again I would try here and there to engage it. The trick (ok not trick but fact) is if you engage it and the gears or what not aren't lined up then it can't sync and no light.
Ill take the lashing's for lack of terms and bad explanation. lol. but isnt' that some what on the right track?

I'm visually challenged though not colour blind. I frequently have to get someone to help when wrenching on the truck. Getting old is pure hell.
I think you should have someone check your work when you are working with the EWD or other vehicle wiring.

Put the truck in neutral when you try to lock it. I found that the pressure on the drivetrain keeps mine from locking. It acted like yours until I stuck it in neutral and then it locked and unlocked freely.

As mentioned, when you start the LC you should have a CDL indicator illuminated along with the front and rear elocker indicators. If yours isn't showing then you could have a bad bulb in the instrument panel. I'm not sure what else might cause it to not light for a couple of seconds when you turn the key.
If you decide to wire the rear elocker without the harnesses, I recommend that you use 6 conductor trailer cord. You might find these two threads helpful in that regard:

Actually, the CDL light does not come on with the ignition.
