Can I tow my new Cruiser?
I just picked up a 91 (my first land cruiser ) but its not running.
Can I unbolt the drive shaft and pull it home on a tow dolly (only the rear wheels will be on the ground)????????
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Aaron
Here is what it looks like.

I figured I could, thats how I towed home the last Toyota I bought, but since 4runners are not AWD and I don't know much about Cruisers........I figured I better ask the Pro's.

Actually no. I unbolt it and wire/strap it up, get home unstrap and bolt back up.
Do you think my 5.4 F150 will be able to tow the cruiser?

Ok as long we are talkign about rear not the front
I dont see why F150 would have any problems. Cruiser is 4700 LB I though F150 is good for 10000 LB.

Funny... When I was recently relocating from Dallas to Las Vegas, no moving company would allow me to tow my Cruiser with a moving truck. Too Heavy they said. I told 'em .

Wait. Why does the FSM (IN-14) not recommend it - Unless the front wheels rotate freely - the way I read it. I could be wrong as I never tried myself, please double check with the expects...

Its a long messed up story, grab some and bear with me.............I went shopping with my wife Sat afternoon and on the way down (about an hour away) I spotted this cruiser. It was sitting in a yard like it was for sale but no sign on it. On the way home that evening I stopped to check it out. I could see that there was no plate on the back, I knock on the door but no one answered. So I start looking around it and there is a 4x8 sheet of plywood laying on the ground next to the truck......its for sale! I call the number and this guy answers, its not his cruiser its his brother-in-laws and he is trying to sell it for him, BUT he doesn't know anything about it other than its a 1990 (even I knew it wasen't a 90) and "it needs a wiring harness or something". He said Its been sitting there a long time, they were asking $2,800 then $1,400. He then says they would take $800, he wants it out of his yard, "if its not gone in a week I'm having it towed out of there". I told him I would drive back down the next day, look it over and get back to him.
I went back down Sunday afternoon an looked it over. Forgot to grab my camera but took some pic's with my cell phone. While looking it over I found the title in the glove box and took a pic of that too. I'm glad I did that now because after going back and forth with this guy the past couple days was getting old. I searched the name and address on the title and got a hold of the owner and we got the price worked out and I got some info. He said the "main fuse under the hood" is blown. He "thinks there is a freyed wire somewhere". He said the fuse blew twice in 6 months. The first time he took it to a toyota dealer and got hammered with a big bill before they found the problem, when it blew the second time (6 month later) he parked it and bought a car and its been sitting since.
He is a younger guy and I can tell he doesn't know much about cars, so to answer your question..............I'm not sure what is wrong with it. but I couldn't turn it down for what I got it for.

I already put a new razor blade in the scraper.
I didn't pick it up yet, I think I'm getting it tomorrow. I'll let you know how much once I get it, I don't want to jinx myself.
What would you pay for it??
The only bad spots
the rear bumper had some rust, and the Pass side front bumper was bumped, cracked the flare and pushed the fender in a little.

I've towed an 80 with me 5.4 truck, stopping is the hardest part without trailer brakes, but just give yourself some extra room and you'll be fine. Good luck on negotiating price and gettin her running!

.... and it even has the original cig lighter!
$500-800 seems fair as you could eventually part it out and cover your losses if it turns out to be a POS. Anyhow, I'd replace the EFI fuse and have it crank and check that the engine isn't seized or something.

My plan was to buy it for parts but I'm gonna stuff it in the garage next to the 4runner and try and get it running.

Drive shaft Nut & bolts are the same as 4runners and mini's........14mm.
Got the cruiser Saturday morning.
It was snowing Sat morning so my buddy towed it with his big ford diesel. It wasn't fun, The cruiser only went totally sideways once.
The kid told me what the cruiser needed to start, he said "put in a new batt and put a new relay here". He was pointing in the fuse panel under the hood, pointing to an empty spot where a relay was missing........the relay he was refering to is the CDS Fan relay.
I got it home and put the battery charger on it, went out later that night and checked out all the fuses, wires, and such. It cranks over but does not fire up. Everything else seems to work except the power antenna.
I've been searching and reading on here for a while now. I put together a list of things to check.
Looks like it could be a number of things.
Feel free to offer any thoughts or suggestions.

EFI relay. Common failure on a 3FE.
Does the Check Engine Light come on before you try to crank it over?
Sounds like you got it for quite a "steal"

Yeah, I'm happy with the deal.
Yes, the CEL comes on with the key in the 'on' postion.
From searching, I thought I read if the CEL comes on its not an EFI relay/wireing problem??
