Losing the 80

We have had our 1991 80 since my dad purchased it brand new. It has been a kick ass truck, and stood up to two teenage drivers. Both my brother and I learned to drive on it. It was my moms, mine, and my brother's, but my dad recently bought my brother a new f150, so it was sitting idle. My dad decided to give the 80 to his sister in NY. Sad to see my 1st car go, esp. since I grew up in it, but atleast it is staying in the extended family.

I first went offroad, or muddin' as we called it, in this truck. Used to get yelled at when I left mud on driveway. My parents never encourged offroading with it, but my dad did tell me a few days after he bought it he was convinced by a friend to go off road with it, and came way too close to hitting a tree, yikes!

Here are some pics of my baby. Some show how great condition she is in, and some show me taking out the goodies for later use.

I could be succesfully argued that you are getting rid of the wrong vehicle.

I have to agree, would rather keep my 80 than have an American car. Especially one that look like the pics you show above.

I agree, my dad gave me the first shot at the truck, and he'd give my brother my 99. I said no way, my 99 will last way longer than the f150. I plan on keeping my 99 way longer than my bro can keep his new truck. But, I also don't want to trade my 99 for the 91, so....its gotta go

I have a nice kick butt $40,000 1999 f150 (perfect) with only 35,000 miles and I'll be more than happy to trade it for a 99 LC with 100,000 miles.

Seriously any takers?

Tic, tic, tic... I didn't think so.

Haha, I am so not looking to be felt sorry for. Just gunna miss the cruiser I learned to drive on (and the one that began my love w/ cruisers w/ ) and the one that has proven itself for over 14 years. Haha, ok maybe a little sorrow? lost my first cruiser love. Wouldn't be so bad if the aunt wasn't undeserving of it...but ill spare you family politics.

LOL, lurker yea, I'll keep my 99 w/ 78k on it!

Guess I'm wrong, but I still think you should be forced to pay for your vehicles.

My older son was a wreck when we sold our 60 which was the vechicle he was raised in from birth. He ended up sleeping in it the night before the new owner came to pick it up. The whole family was basically in tears. So I know what you mean about being sad about it.

On the other hand, I agree that you should be buying your trucks. WTF.... giving the children cars/trucks? I don't get it.

Yaa I'm with Riley and Junk, when I turned 16 my dad let me 'use' a cheby sprint(basically a suzuki with a bowtie) damn thing only had 3 cylinders. When I complained he said 'you don't like it get a job and get your own car'. Which I did and one year later I was driving a 66 Plymouth HP2 with a 426 HEMI, and I understood the value of a dollar.

I'm on my 5th F-150 transmission (37k miles) and atleast in my case the good news is they're only $2700 a piece!

I don't know you guys, the 80 isn't the only reliable truck out there. From my experience back in Alaska, many friends had early to mid 90's vintage F150s with well over 150k on them and very few problems, and these people *needed* 4x4s to get to their cabins in the winter. Many used them for work as well. And these trucks faced 30-40 below temps every winter!

One of my friends had an F150 with 240k on it. I asked him what his secret was- how often he changed his oil, tranny fluid, diffs,l etc. He said he changed the oil every 3k, said he put synth in the tranny and diffs when new, hasn't changed it since! No probs other than batteries, brakes, belts, starter.

Oh and I agree BTW- what's up with parents buying their children Landcruisers and new F150s? Those are expensive vehicles! If you get that nice a vehicle at an early age, what incentive is there to work for something better? And you certainly don't learn the value of the dollar when mucho-$$$ vehicles are just handed to you.
