Cool Falco80's HDJ80

Well i just recently picked up my ultimate 80 and i'm wrapt with it. She's a 97 HDJ80 with the brilliant multivalve, mechancially injected 1HD-FT. All white, with white flairs and alloy bar. Everything is pretty much stock Toyota with the exception of springs and shocks, which lift it up just a tad. It has just over 270,000km's on the clock and 100,000 of them were clocked up in her first two years of life! Plenty of highway miles are much better for a diesel than stop-start city driving. I've dropped all the oils already and replaced all the filters so i have a baseline to start with. There was a toyota oil filter on her and Toyota red LLC in the radiator, which is always a good sign.

I plan to swap all the good parts off my 92 FZJ80 and start using them on the new ride. I'm going to set this one up mainly for touring (expeditions as you guys know them ) and take advantage of the cruise control to soak up the highway miles. Motor comes on boost at 1600rpm, but below that it feels real sluggish like a standard NA diesel. The new 3" mandrel-bent exhaust will fix that though.

Anyway, enjoy the pics!

Man!! You just got my dream rig!!! I always want a 1HD-FT 80. Too bad in us, we do not have that choice, so I will sit patiently and find a drivetrain and drop it in my LX.

And to think that my neighbor has that exact same motor/ tranny combo he is trying to stuff into a BJ-70. It looks much more "at home" in an 80. Nice rig BTW. Looks brand new.

Yes mate, i'm familair with that adjustment, so once i bolt the new exhaust on i may adjust it. I'll see how it goes. I'm really liking the fuel economy i'm getting with the stock engine and stock sized A/T's so i don't really want to compromise that too much. I'll probably just move up to a set of 285 A/T's and leave it.

This truck is in such good condition i almost don't want to start modding it. It had a dual batery system installed by Toyota 6 months ago, using two AC Delco 730CCA sealed batterys. They also installed an in dash 6 stacker stereo with bluetooth, which looks like it came out of a late model Prado maybe? It was definately not around when this 80 was made, but because it is factory Toyota it looks like it was meant to be there.

I picked up an ARB high-mount winch bar off ebay and also a VDO boost and Pyro gauge. Hopefully i'll bolt these up sometime soon.

Jealous..... America has a strange phobia with diesels and very poor quality fuel. Good find!

I'm interested in the dual battery set up - what's controlling them? Something aftermarket or something from Toyota?

That is one sweet 80.. extremely clean, too.

1600 RPM seems pretty high for the boost threshold. What's the redline for the 1HD-FT?

Judging by the picture of the tach, looks like around 4200RPM
