what sort of mileage are you getting?
I was pleased this week... did 600+300+200 km (1,100 total) with 62, 40, 20 liters (122 total) liters. Best is 10l / 100km (approx 24 miles per gallon) worst was 13.3l / 100km (approx 18 miles per gallon) with an average of 11.09l / 100km (approx 21 miles per gallon)
that was on "highway" with elevation changes from sea level to nearly 2,000 m, and also city driving for a few days, and also a few hours of 4wd mud slogging on back roads (then more highway). All with OME 2.5" lift, 31" mud terrain tires.
Distances are GPS measured.
Just for comparison's sake.

I didn't even see that.. was too busy ogling the shifter (and the sub tank switch).
To the OP: Good call on opening up that exhaust. It will likely pay for itself with increased mileage. Please post back with your findings.
Any more info on that headunit? I dig the OEM look.

Haha, yeah no chance of a spill mate. For some reason or another a beer always goes hand-in-hand with an oil-change!

From what i can tell the both batts are wired up in parallel, as i cannot find an isolator, and the 2nd battery positive cable goes straight to the main batteries positive terminal. Not sure why they have done that, as they crank over fine with one battery. An isolator is something that will be going on though...soon.

Redline for the 1HD-FT is 4300rpm according to the tach. The turbo comes on bosst at 1600rpm and the fun is over by about 3000rpm. I'm bolting on the new exhaust as we speak so i'm keen as mustard to see the differance!

Well, i've just about gone through a full load of fuel and so far have done 800km's. I still have half the main tank left, so maybe 1100-1200km's per full load. Thats a mix of highway and stop-start driving. Either way, the fuel gauge moves a lot slower than it does in my 1FZ beast!

Head unit is from some late model Toyota, but i have no idea which one. Prado, hilux...couldn't tell you. It looks right at home in the dash and the bluetooth does work ok. Iv'e seen the odd one pop up on ebay australia and they were selling for around $400aus i think. The OEM look rocks, especially at night.

I hate to bust up the party but there are 2 things wrong here.
1) The Steering wheel and pedals are on the wrong side. WTH?
2) It is not in my driveway WTH? x2
Seriously, super nice rig. Congratulations.
Happy touring mate.

Amazing rig!
I love the color and I especially love the way you have square fog lights on the bumper! Reminds me of my cruiser which I haven't seen in a week now! I miss it!

I finally got around to swapping my tyres over.
The 305 maxxis bighorns look way better on the HDJ80 than the stocko tyres that came off!
Meanwhile my FZJ80 looks kinda stoopid with the small tyres now. I think she feels neglected and realizes that she's not the favourite anymore, as the battery main battery in it has slowly died on me. It's like she knows she's gotta go...
The 3" mandrel-bent exhaust has been bolted up already along with the turbo-timer. The winch bar is going on as we speak and i'm almost done installing the boost and egt gauges.
The exhaust made a big differance, and the turbo spooling up sounds awesome.

THat ARB bull bar looks like it is the "commercial" edition? Is it to fit an 8274?

I think you'll find that the diesel's are normally wired that way and the petrol's have an isolator. We've got 4 100 Series wagon's at work, 3 petrol and one diesel and that's how it was setup from factory too.
Awesome ride by the way!!

Some more pics of recent additions. You can clearly see the size differance between the stock dump-pipe and the custom dump.
I got the turbo-timer off ebay and i liked it because it fits into a factory blank position, giving it a factory-fitted look.
The ARB bar mounted up sweet and looks great. I'm kinda surprised how far out front it sticks and the winch space is massive. The approach angle has suffered but this truck is not going to be used to crawl over rocks so i'm not too concerned.

Hi Tapage,
The turbo-timer is a "Miccon" unit. I bought it off Aus ebay, but it says they only deliver to Australia.
It's a simple unit, with 0-9 minute settings, that is easy to wire up. It fits perfectly in a spare blank spare switch hole, so it looks factory fitted. Thats about all the info i have mate!

I keep reading this thread and drooling over your rig! Very nice!
Where did you get the VDO gauges from (and would they ship to Canada)? I am trying to source a VDO gauge with the metric (*C) face for a transmission temperature gauge, but they aren't available in NA.

Done a couple more small things over christmas. Swapped over my air-locker compressor and switches from my petrol 80. Still need to swap diff centres over though...
I mounted the activation compressor under my seat and it fitted nicely. There was already carpet removed from that area due to something the PO had mounted under there. Whatever they had under the seat, they did a **** job at cutting out the carpet!
Once i pulled the loom out, and checked the arb wiring diagram, it was dead-easy to wire into the new cruiser. I placed the switches in different positions to where they were in my FZJ80. I put the isolation/compressor switch over on my door side to stop any accidental knocking of both switches together as they were mounted next to each other, on the centre console, in the other 80. There is a spare switch blank next to the rear locker just in case i decide to put a front air locker in too later on.
I also switched over my digital engine temp monitor as well and mounted it low, but still easy to see.

Nice car
Where do you get the dash carpet trim ? I'm assuming it's tailored to fit ? I need something like that before my dash melts...
