OME850/863+caster+wheel spacer= right side higher than left?
Sorry for my bad english language ... :(
I've got a problem with my HDJ80 with new OME 850's/863s' + caster kit + 1.2'' wheel spacers: right side of the truck is 0.8'' higher than left side (front and rear!). Can you help me? Thanks ![]() Walther __________________ Past: HDJ80 GX '96, KDJ90 GX '01 Present: HDJ80 VX '98 |

If your Cruiser is left hand drive try reading through slee offroad's installation instructions.
Located here: Slee - OME Suspension Installation (Toyota 80 Series Land Cruiser) You may have installed the springs on the wrong side. __________________ 1980 40 1996 80 2 kids, a wife and a dog. |

I had a similar problem on mine and I ended up just having to switch the rear springs.

betcha you got the springs on the wrong sides. Just make sure you hit the lower shock bolts in the rear with some anti-sieze lube. If that bolt breaks its a real PITA. I buddy of mine broke one and spent the next couple of nights drilling an tapping the old bolt out.

Damnit! I just finsihed installing my springs but haven't set the truck down because I need to replace the PS knuckle. Please tell me is some cases it dose't make a difference which side they are on.
I read Slee's instructions but forgot about the opposite side thing. __________________ '79 FJ40 33" MTRs, 2" OME;' 96 FZJ80 Retro 100% OEM Lockers, CDL, OEM Hand Trottle, OEM Grab Bar, JDM Cooling Fan, OME 851/860, OEM SubTank in process "The monstrous evils of the twentieth century have shown us that the greediest money grubbers are gentle doves compared with money-hating wolves like Lenin, Stalin and Hitler, who in less than three decades killed or maimed nearly a hundred million men, women, and children and brought untold suffering to a large portion of mankind.” Eric Hoffer |

The sides don't matter one bit as long as the driver weighs #800 more or less than the passenger. I don't recall reading any posts where it didnt matter what side they went on. At least the odds are 50/50 that you put them on the correct side.

Except I don't remember which side is which. ![]() The springs are different heights because the spring mounts are in different spots. If you haven't removed the factory springs, or know which side is which, you can see which one is taller. __________________ '97 LX450 - The -mobile'96 LX450 - Mine! ![]() Triple locked, 315 General Grabber AT2, OME Medium, 1" body lift, belly skid plate, grey wire mod. My fully broke in OME springs were only about 1/2" difference in height, it would have been very easy to swap them in the wrong sides if you weren't paying close attention. New springs would most likely have a bigger difference, but not by much. __________________ '97 LX450 - The -mobile'96 LX450 - Mine! ![]() Triple locked, 315 General Grabber AT2, OME Medium, 1" body lift, belly skid plate, grey wire mod. WMCXXT,
I do alignments for a living here in the States. Although you more than likely drive on the different side of the road that we do. Alot of vehicles here, mostly trucks and SUV's like a half a degree more caster on the right side of the vehicle to compensate for road crown. At least that was the way I was taught. Also a half a degree higher camber on the left side is sometimes also needed for a vehicle that pulls or fades towards the right. I haven't however looked at the alignment specs of the 80's as I unfortunately don't own one, or ever seen one in the shop for an alignment. So take it with a grain of salt for what it's worth. Good luck with your situation, I hope you get to the bottom of your issue. |
