Keeping the cruiser cool

I am prepping for desert season and had an idea. I am usually most concerned about overheating when climbing the grade leaving the desert cutting through the hills.

So to get to the point I saw this on Man-A-Fre and wondered if this might be an inexpensive way to keep things cool and prevent overheating or high temps that could be hard in the engine. I am referring to the TRD thermostat...

http://www.man-a-fre.com/parts_acces...thermostat.htm

I am also wondering how labor intensive it would be to install a thermostat i am not very mechanically skilled...

Opinions??

I have zero opinion on the thermostat itself and quite frankly wouldn't do it myself. I'd do the blue clutch mod. As far as replacing it IF you decide to use it, well its very accessible and easy to change. Not a even a 1/2

Zach,
I would do the blue fan clutch first as NLXTACY mentioned. If you need help changing this or the thermostat out shoot me a PM and I can swing by to help you out.

Dan

There's no way a lower temp. t-stat is going to keep you from overheating. Once you're at all above the "set" temp of the t-stat, it's wide open, and it makes no difference what's in there.

It of course can let you run at lower temp's in normal conditions (not sure why you'd want that though), but once the system's struggling to keep the engine cool, it doesn't matter one bit what the t-stat's temp. rating is.

X2. And will add that if the outside temp is less that 120F and your having heating problems, there is something wrong with your cooling system! This doesn't apply to supercharged rigs, they have issues with hot weather cooling. Changing the clutch fluid to 10+K works well in desert conditions.

I will add a few electric pushers on front if you already check your entire cooling system and it's ok .. it gonna help a lots with your AC ..

x2 again...a great man once told me the same thing and the 10+K IS the ticket. Also make sure your shroud is sealed tight to the radiator.
