Another Aftermarket Supercharger Gauge Question
I have been debating on whether or not to add two Autometer Z gauges on my A pillar since I installed the S/C.
Even though the TRD kit doesn't produce a ton of boost (<10psi) it seems like a boost gauge is a good to have to 1)monitor boost and 2)maybe to spot any potential system leaks? Therefore I think I will go with a boost gauge in one of the two pod openings. Now for the other opening. It seems like a lot of people add a Water Temp gauge. I have the Raven temp mod and a ScanGaugeII which together seem pretty good at monitoring Water Temps and I have yet to see my temps ever get above 190. (this will probably change if I am ever in AZ, NM, or towing a fat load up a pass). In my situation, it seems like another water temp gauge would be redundant. Other gauges I have been looking at and my thoughts on each include: 1)Oil temp (Is this redundant or does the Oil Temp fluctuate drmatically away from water temp?) 2)Air/fuel mix (not sure if this is necessary since 96-97's run rich already and I have the Landtank MAF which should also inhibit lean air/fuel) 3)Tranny temp (seems like a lot of people would like to monitor this especially when towing. I don't have anything I tow on a regular basis, but I this might be a worthwile investment to save $$ on tranny repairs. There has been talk about modding the Scangauge to monitor this but so far I don't think it is a possiblity) 4)Ext Gas Temp (seems like this would be more useful for the turbo folks than the S/C folks) 5)Fuel pressure? I appreciate your thoughts and comments.

intercooler
Some possibly relevant info to my previous post is that I have been scrounging up various parts as funds allow to put together an intercooler similar to BLarsen's now that the newness of the S/C has worn off and I'm not scared to modify/chop it anymore. It is quite obvious that the intake tube after the blower gets pretty hot and has to be causing significant power loss.
This next question might be better asked in the Scanguage thread, but I was also wondering if those of you that have the SGII have noticed a significant decrease in intake temps after you have added a safari snorkle. I have noticed my intake temps sometimes get above 100* in 80* weather. I am not sure where along the intake the OBDII takes the temp reading ie. pre blower or post blower. If it's post blower than the 100* intake temps would make sense. __________________ 97LX450, 141K, 285CooperSST's, OME851/860's, S/C, CDL 7-Pin, Landtank MAF, Slee SS lines, 100 pads, silicone PHH, Raventai temp, CDan parts throughout($5K+). WoW .....that didnt take long. Ive been wanting the larsen style IC and still dont want to cut mine up after three years
Also take a look at the TRD style IC that was not released with the kit I think i'd opt for the tranny temp guage as more than one S/C'd rig has gone through a tranny. I was watching the SG thread for hints on modding the xguage settings to get tranny temps but honestly havent tried studying/modding it yet. I believe consensus is folks have seen a slight drop in intake temps after the snorkle install... i cant really confirm till i cut that hole in my fender __________________ 95 FZJ-80 Lifted, Locked, armored,37'd, blown and bigelow enhanced ; single digit MPG wondermobile 72 FJ-55 IPOR bumpers/sliders, SOA, 3'' BL, 8274, and a big ole F'n engine, 35' (for sale) 92 P/U stock, lil lady owned, gas miser/DD/worker aka tiny tim |

. Do you know where I could look at the TRD Intercooler? I haven't found anything on this. The TRD site is pretty much worthless IMHO, way too basic and no detailed pics. __________________ 97LX450, 141K, 285CooperSST's, OME851/860's, S/C, CDL 7-Pin, Landtank MAF, Slee SS lines, 100 pads, silicone PHH, Raventai temp, CDan parts throughout($5K+). I believe the intake air temperature reading would come from the MAF sensor (which is pre-supercharger?)
As for another gauge, I've been looking at the transmission temperature kit from Wholesale Automatics in Oz. I'm waiting for the results of a couple of bursary applications from school first though

That looks like a nice plug and play kit. I'm not sure how the Z-series gauge taps into the tranny. __________________ 97LX450, 141K, 285CooperSST's, OME851/860's, S/C, CDL 7-Pin, Landtank MAF, Slee SS lines, 100 pads, silicone PHH, Raventai temp, CDan parts throughout($5K+). Thanks for the pic. It took me a second to figure out the mounting. So I am assuming this intercooler was an additional piece you could buy from TRD which effectively loses the standard plenum?
I read somewhere that air to air IC's are a bit more efficient at cooling the charged air than a air to liquid. They definitely seem easier to rig up with pre-existing parts. I don't have the resources or the $$ and time to go Landtank stylee and have an intercooler cast/milled from scratch. As of now, the Blarsen style IC is a bit more feasible and seems to be very functional. In his writeup he stated that with the IC, the intake tube is cool to the touch. Not quantifiable data, but I'd rather have that than a tube that would burn my hand. There has to be a huge power loss with that kind of heat. __________________ 97LX450, 141K, 285CooperSST's, OME851/860's, S/C, CDL 7-Pin, Landtank MAF, Slee SS lines, 100 pads, silicone PHH, Raventai temp, CDan parts throughout($5K+). Autometer Z-Series Gauges - JDMUltimate - JDMUltimate.com
Here is a site I found that seems to have reasonable prices on gauges. Decisions, decisions. However, I am having trouble sourcing an intercooler (air-air) with a ~14X16 core. The justjap intercooler listed in Blarsens thread is quite a bit smaller than the one he used Just Jap Auto Imports :: Cooling :: Intercoolers :: Cooling-Pro Bar & Plate Intercooler - Small Type __________________ 97LX450, 141K, 285CooperSST's, OME851/860's, S/C, CDL 7-Pin, Landtank MAF, Slee SS lines, 100 pads, silicone PHH, Raventai temp, CDan parts throughout($5K+).
