Emu Lift

I know this issues has probably been posted to death. I am 90% sure I want a 2.5" heavy front and 2.5" medium rear. My question is I have noticed some merchants advertise a 3" OME lift. Is this the same as the 2.5" or do they actually make one a 1/2" taller? Seems strange.

I think I will stick with the 285's and the 2.5 or 3" lift. Are mediums in the rear good for roof top tent and a family of 4 with supplies? It is also the family daily driver.

Thanks for the advice.

ive got heavies all the way 'round. unloaded its a tad stiffer than i like, esp with 35-40 psi on 315 mt's. fully loaded it rides alot nicer. medium rear's are a nice compromise..but many complain of sag after a couple years or so. ome advertises it at 3" but after its all said n done...most net about 2.5". mine seems alot more than that though...closer to 3". run a front spacer unless you want the 'constantly braking' look aka stinkbug. check our mine n matt's lifts if you're on this side of the 91.

check out mike mcT's lift he's got on his rig that he's parting out. if i had a G, id grab it as its a nice 4" setup, with adj panhards and all the works. i think the lifts that are found on the JDM ride alot softer...not so stiff like the ome's. or the FOR kit which looks great..but springs are currently on backorder from what i read here...

A lot depends on how much weight you plan to add. When I bought my setup from Slee, they recommended heavies up front and mediums in the back.

This was based on me running a Slee Short Bus Front Bumper and Hanna Sliders, but no plans to run a rear bumper. This setup also eliminates the stinkbug look.

I pull a small cargo trailer once in a while and the medium rears do a great job whereas my oem springs would sag quite a bit.

If I run completely empty in the back, the ride does get a little stiff but not too bad.

Also, the higher you go, the more changes you have to make. In fact, I think I might have to change my front tie rod as it seems bent.

This is why it's best to go by the numbers. Usally what is called a 3, 3.5 or 4 OME lift is the 850J with 863J or any other rear spring combo.

I do hope to put a roof top tent on in the next couple of years and a rear bumper. My BJ60 Beltons were pretty stiff in the beginning but have softened over 4 years. I think I need to ride in an 80 with heavies all around to see if it is too much. I'll give you a call sometime Matt.

Whatever I get I know it won't be as soft as the ride in Justin's big yellow 80. I've driven in it a few times. 12" lift is sure nice, but not too family practical.

I just installed 850J's up front with 863 heavies in the rear. I love the look, but I still had to add an 1" spacer to level it out. I have no rear weight and an ARB w/ a Warn 12000 in the front and sliders.
I have no vibes.
